Hi there,

Always likeed my big cases from CM Stacker to current CM HAF X...loved it at the time a couple of years ago jamming in 5 optical drives, hard drives galore etc etc etc.

Kinda had enough of the size though and am looking for recommendations for a n alternative case that can sit on my desk approx...oooh 35-40 CM high-ish maybe, room for 2 optical drives, 2 hard drives, full length graphics card (Radeon 7950), a standard ATX motherboard and a tower CPU cooler and standard sized PSU...

I intend to keep my current overclock of 4.4Ghz on a Sandybridge 2600K as best I can so airflow would be nice :)

I'm 28 so moving away from all that glitzy, plastic junk that plagues most cases. Not sure I want to spend the big bucks for an understated Lian-Li as I feel they've taken things too far on the opposite end of the spectrum and are exploiting customers (just my opinion:))

But am open to suggestions regardless, even the likes of Lian-Li, have about £150 to spend, must be a tower design. :)

Thanks in advance for any advise...crikey there's just so much crap around these days in terms of cases it's madness! :o

Cheers, Dave

Have a look at the new Fractal Arc Midi R2 coming out in March, two spaces for optical drives, lots of room for hard drive/SSD mounting, very good cooling (judging on the Midi R1) with fan filters on the front and the top + a window! will be around the 75 mark when it comes out.

i have a corsair 300r windowed edition which has all the features and doesn't look like a power rangers leg. which was 70ish i think.

But the further you go in price range the better the corsairs get i believe.

Fractal design Arc Midi, perfect for you requirements. As for lian li I've had my for 9 years and its still going strong not many people with a plastic 20 fan special can say that!

Just did a refresh and saw this post, lol at the last bit :)
I would have gone for the new midi if it was out, but didn't fancy getting the original one with the 2nd already on the way shortly.

Got the 300R for £60 with side window (I don't mind seeing inside, but that's as bling as I'm going!) Bring out the tweed jacket, pipe and slippers, my days of dressing up a computer like a prostitute are over :p

Righty so just got the Corsair 300R and have put everything across and very happy to say goodbye to the "look at me I own a spaceship" coolermaster HAF X. However, this Corsair 300R is a noisy bugger, it's about as loud as the HAF X when the side panel is off :p

Hmmm, after a bit of research turns out this is a common theme with this case, I'm not unhappy with it though, it's compact and reasonably well built and looks how I wanted it to, no fuss etc.

I would be appreciative of some advice to tone down the noise a bit, I've read of a few people who have tried silent fans but have ended up with strange whistling noise and the real problem is that there's no dust filters to speak of which act as noise dampening, so really, looking which direction to take with this.

1. Noise dampening material that won't act too much as an insulator and where it should be placed for optimal effect, I understand the main culprit of this case is the top "all mesh" design.

2. Some silent fan product recommendations.

3. Anything else?

Many thanks for any advice again, it's not a terrible case by any stretch but really could do with just taking a slight edge of the fans, also there's definitely an annoying resonance coming from the case listening from certain positions.

Cheers again :)
