Hi guys,

Maybe I'm being thick but I just can't seem to get my head around what order I need to do things in? So can someone do a numbered list for me to get started, ie 1) Get passkey (link) 2) Download this 3) Download that

My rig is in sig, i5 2500K & GTX470. Do I need to download 2 separate programs to fold on the CPU & GPU or can 1 program do both at the same time for me?

Also, whats the folding project of choice to join (OCUK team of course)?

Sorry if this sounds basic to you seasoned folders but its just information overload for me? :(

Ta muchly :D

I'm just running the FAH GPU Tracker V2 program. Am I correct in saying this will run 2 programs in 1, CPU SMP, & GPU?

Also is it just this one window to look at, as I remember from years ago, SETI had a 3D graphical display showing the WUs you were working on (IIRC) does this have anything similar or do I just watch the % increase?

Thanks :)

You won't need to run HFM and GPU Tracker together as GPU Tracker will display your PPD, completed units, etc just like HFM does.
GPU Tracker will let you fold SMP and GPU, that's the easiest way to get started and it's how I fold at the minute, it's just so much simpler.

So, a numbered list:
1. Get passkey.
2. Download GPU Tracker.
3. Enter username, passkey, team number, and select your clients in GPU Tracker.
4. ???
5. Fold!

Finally as for a graphical display, if you run the graphical client yes there is one, but it slows down your folding. GPU Tracker doesn't integrate this so just gaze on your PPD and get excited by that...or maybe that's just me ;)

Hope this helps!

Thanks CaptainUnlikely,

I think its running correctly now, pic below. The SMP though shows no PPD, will this update once the unit is completed, or have I done something wrong?

Looks as if it just doesn't have the info for the unit. Go to Setup and click Download Projects List to get updated details for the projects, it should show points then.

Edit: or not, just done some searching and it seems that line of units isn't on the file GPU Tracker gets its info from, so you can't see your PPD. You can however get your TPF by clicking the word SMP once it's been running a while, and plug it into this calculator to check the PPD and make sure it's in line with expectations.

Oh, and just in case you don't know, I should add that you'll need to complete 10 SMP units with the passkey before you start getting bonus credit for them, so until those have been folded you'll be on less PPD than GPU Tracker predicts.

Is your 2500K overclocked? If not, that seems about right to me.

Also, your TPF is quite variable, up to nearly a minute's difference in some frames. If your PC is being used quite heavily then it will drop your PPD quite a bit. Try letting the PC idle for 15 minutes or so to get at least 3 uninterrupted frames and see if your PPD improves significantly, if so then it's due to the PC being taxed by other programs than F@H.

are you sure?
i have an i5 2400s folding and that gets 7500ppd on the 7200projects, to me that looks a bit low.

Hm, well in that case I'll withdraw my statement, though as above the TPF seems very variable so I don't necessarily think there's something wrong with his setup, perhaps just that the PC is fairly heavily used.

you might be right i can only speculate as the i5 2400s is only 2.5 GHZ and his cpu is an i5 2500k at 3.3ghz i'd have thought that the 0.8ghz would have got you more points.
I'm also forgetting he's running a gpu aswell so that'll knock off a few points.

Hi chaps,

CPU is stock for the minute, will be overclocking soon. Will the F@H automatically notice the overclock and use the available speed or do I have to do something to 'reset' it so to speak?

Also, I have now finished 2 WUs (1xCPU & 1xGPU) but zero points have been allocated to me for the CPU? Will this update at some point?

Thanks again for all the help :)

And yeah, its my only pc, but I've only been web browsing so nothing too major. Is there anything I can do to make sure its allocating maximum resources, ie CPU, GPU, RAM etc?

F@H will automatically notice the overclock, no need to change any settings.
The points are credited at set times, so I'd say check again later on or tomorrow to see if you've been credited, it's not done instantly.

There's not much you can do to increase resource allocation, it is a little odd that the TPF has been so variable if you've only been browsing though.

Overclocking will boost your PPD massively though - I have a 470 too, mine does around 19K with a fairly mild overclock. The CPU will benefit even more as the points increase isn't linear due to the bonus system, so even a small increase in CPU speed nets a good improvement in PPD.
