About £250 max budget... I've had a look on the Evan's and Halford's websites, but not all that sure what I'm looking at!

I think a mountain bike would be best, just for out and about cycling with the aim of just being more active... Will be used around urban and rural routes, so I think suspension would be a good idea?

Any particular brands in that budget better than others? Are Halford's Apollos any good?

Cheers :D

Go to a bike shop and get measured up properly for a bike. Nothing worse than riding a bike that doesn't fit properly. Unless it's a BMX or Jump bike.

I've looked at a sizing guide online and I'm looking at ~22" for my height, but I'll defo go in and just check it out to be sure! :p

Sizing guide isn't everything, frames vary greatly. I'm 6ft 2 (and a bit!) and my 20" Specialized is perfect.

As already recommended, get into a bike shop and try some out.

i'd say the suspension on a bike at that budget is going to be pretty crude. If you do go for suspension ensure you at least get lockout. Suspension is pointless on the road. You just waste energy bouncing up and down instead of going forwards.

22" is a big frame, I'm 6'3 with long legs and ride a 20" Cube. As said by others go and sit on some bikes in a shop and see which feels the most comfortable.

If I had that budget like Radox said I'd be looking at second hand. There are masses of cyclescheme bikes out there you should be able to get your hands on cheap. I'm buying an MTB for the g/f, a Cube LTD Comp off a lad at work that is only one year old for £250!! That's an £800 bike when new.

i started cycling to work 6 weeks ago ,12 miles there on the canal and 9 back on the road ,got a 2010 model mongoose hardtail for 170 ,pleased with it ,feels much much easier than my old one ,just make sure its light and a decent make .

Try Decathlon. The Rockrider 5.3 is decent for £299 and comes with mechanical discs and a suntour fork.
