hi , just had some cash drop in my lap so i wanted to get in to vr. Now i thought i knew what i wanted but recently things have taken a turn so now i just dont know what to get...so this is what i thought i knew..from what i had read and seen up till about 1 month ago i thought hive was the way to go but not sure now so i need some help..
im not expecting the world and im on purist so i know there are pros and cons with both systems
i would be most gaming on it , ive got about 2 mtr x 2mtr room to move in , dont mind standing or sitting whilst playing ...so....
help me out fellas because i got 1 shot at this what ever system i get i will stick with.
most important thing is i want to have fun ...dont want to spend up to £400 and think that was a waste..
im open to both rift or vive so if you guys can explain which system would suit me better it would help..cheers guys

Guys.....so many reply ...I'm grateful to you all..
Right...first off. I've got a 980ti and I7 3770 K....so I hope I can run VR for a start.
Right these might be silly questions but some of you mentioned tracking....is it a big difference between the 2 systems.
Games....is there much difference in the quality of games...graphic wise ...also is there any major differences I would notice if I was to try each system...sorry for the noob questions but I just want to cover all my bases....

Once again a big thank you to all who posted reply. After initially thinking I would get the vive I now think it will be the rift....just got to break the news to the Mrs. ....oh just another quick question..If you are struggling for usb ports is it possible to use an usb hub or is this not a good thing to do..

After all the positive reply I received I would just like to let you know I just purchased a rift for myself. Unfortunately the Mrs says it's to be put away for my Xmas present. So to make sure I don't get any nasty unforseen problems when I set it up at Xmas I just wanted to ask a couple of questions...
1 should I get an extra sensor bearing in mind my play space is not that big.
2 if I were to pay multi player on the rift how would I utilise a mic. ...at the minute I use a headset with a built in mic for my online gaming.
3 I've read a bit about the vr store thing...is it easy to access and work with...
4 last but not least could you guys recommend some games and stuff for me to play or try to get me used to vr be for I get some real games....must admit I like the look of that space game lone echo....
Cheers guys and hopefully see you on the vr side

I'd get a third sensor personally, I ordered one within a few days. If you want to play games like Onward and Pavlov VR which are essentially competitive shooters you don't want to turn hit a sensor blind spot and not be able to have it properly see where your hand is. If you want to play driving games or space sims then you probably don't need one.

ok dude....anyways i seemto be having trouble actually getting hold of a third sensor. Have you got to order them from abroad or can you get hold of them over here?.....also any idea how long the cable is on the sensors just in case i need an extension, and if i do could somebody recommend a good quality extension. Finally as i have had to put my rift away to santa can you guys think of any other little extras i could need to make my experience just that bit better....i can ask family for them items as pressies....

You get the 3rd sensor directly from oculus, mine took a week to come, and it’s inproved my VR experience 100% I hated turning by using the analogue stick in games like Onward Pavlov etc. Now with 3rd sensor behind me I turn my body and it’s glorious! Some people have there to 2 sensors in opposing corners and say it work well, I tried it and for me it was poor experience, with terrible tracking and ‘floaty hands’

I HIGHLY recommend a 3rd sensor
Just ordered an extra sensor hopefully be hère for Christmas

Well its been a truly site Xmas as far as my journey in to vr is concerned. Firstly when trying to install software I got an error saying I needed some windows updates....which I didn't. ...managed to get a fix for that . Now I got to software install and I get a box pop up saying Microsoft runtime path not avaliable or something ....If I close it instalation ends...If I ignore it the software just does not install. ....I waited 40 mins. ..I'm so frustrated I could scream....I think my only way forward will be a windows reinstall. ....

Run an admin level command prompt and try sfc/ scannow before going down the reinstall route.

Thanks for that dude but what will it do?.....also I'm not very good with technical stuff so do you mean I have to run it from c prompt?.....A bit of tech help might help me if that's possible..buts thanks so far

It'll check the integrity of your windows files and fix them if it finds anything wrong, assuming you are running windows 10, click start, type cmd, right click the command prompt option that appears and click on run as administrator, type sfc /scannow into the new window that opens and hit return, it'll take about 5 - 10 minutes to process generally and will let you know if it finds anything.

Once again thank-you....well just to let you know I took my PC to my local repair man.he's quite good and I've used him before do I know he's not goi ng to have my pants down.....secondly I'm running wi does 7 but if I was to format is it now time to go to Windows 10... I had read some bad stuff about updates and driver issues with certain hardware and it put me right off....

Hi guys, well since I got my rift back in the back end of November I can now report that I am finally up and running. It's been a bit of a slog but due to technical and my own stupidity issues we are there. This is my journey in to VR. Well I was really pleased to get the rift but the Mrs decided it was to be a Christmas present. Ok I though I can wait. I got loads of great advice from you guys as to prepare myself for my journey......not listening to some of this advice was my first major mistake. Well Christmas arrived and I got ready to install the software. Bang first problem....software tells Me I need to install some updates so I set about it....no luck....so did some leg work and found a way around it...great..off we go software is starting to install....Bang next problem I got issues with my windows software which I could not have know about. Well long story short I had my pc reformatted and windows put back on.....now let's go again ..This time got the software to install ..great....Boom.....next problem...Whilst setting the hardware up I keep getting error msgs regarding my usb ports. Well now I find out that the chips et on my mobo isn't compatible with the rift (...If I had listened and ran the oculus compatability tool I would have know this from the off).....so,I get an inateck usb card and off we go again.....This time it's green lights....good to go ...so now it's all running...god what do I try first.......well I want to go steady so I install air car. ........fak me it's great I went steady and felt Ok. So now I installed oculus tray tool ...just added a bit of ss not too much didn't really change much else. Want to put steam vr on next. Now I'm ready to rock and roll....going to try a few free things first before I jump in to a full blown game.....would like to play lone echo...what do you guys think would be good to get started....well that was my journey into vr. ....was it worth it.? ...oh yes.......now the real journey begins. .....only problem is none of my friends own a rift so I might just have to find some new rift friends. ...
