Hi all,

I'm getting a bit tired of my old HTC Hero and I'm looking to get my first iPhone, but I'm really out of the loop.

I'm trying to decide between getting the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 4S. The price difference is about £80 (the 4S is £500 PAYG and the 4 is £420). What I'm wondering is, is the 4S worth the extra £80? What are the main differences between the two models?

Thanks.

Main differences are the retina screen and the dual core processor on the 4S. It's also got a better camera.

The only advantage with the 4 I can think of (apart from price) is that jailbreaks come out quicker.

I upgraded from a Hero to a 4S just before Christmas. I've not looked back, difference is night and day.

The iPhone 4 also has the same retina display...

Here's a side by side comparison of the specs. http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3275&idPhone2=4212

If I had kept my iPhone 4 in the first place instead of selling it and later going back to the 4S, I would have been happy still. I don't use Siri and I don't play intensive mobile games like Infinity Blade 2 or GTA III; just the basic puzzle games on the daily commute. The better camera and video is the only thing that stands out but not £80 worth for me as I found the snaps from the 4 are still good enough.

ask yourself these few questions?

are you tempted by any phones that have not been released, but are confirmed yet?

how long are you likely to keep the phone for?

have you played with them both for any reasonable amount of time? i touched one at the apple store doesnt count

This is a good question. Hadn't thought about this. I would feel like a bit of a wally if I spent 500 quid on a 4S only for a new model to come out soon.

Is it worth waiting for anything else that might be coming out soon?

iPhones hold value as do most Apple products for example IPhone 4 £420 iPhone 4s £500 I went with the 4s as I like to be current but my brother has a iPhone 4 not much difference although the 4s seems to be snappier in my opinion.

Personally Id either wait until the 5 comes out which speculation is going on as to when, or get the 4s and if you take to it keep it or if you'd really like the 5 when it comes out shift the 4s and then dig in your pocket to cover the rest of the costs.

That's what I would personally do, we'll all have different opinions.

I'd go with the 4s. It's a better phone, even if not that much different but also because when you come to sell it, you will probably get £80 more for it anyway. If you never bother selling it, IE you keep it untill it's not worth much then the it would have been worth spending the extra just for a faster phone.

I have the 4s and one thing that hasn't been mentioned here is that it loads web pages using 3G quite a bit faster than the 4 even on the same network.

Don't forget the ridiculously useless, but very amusing, Siri!

I'd get it, a new phone is a new phone, best start off with the best you can get.
