Looking to go SSD - advice needed

Well I'm no expert but I guess it depends on the controller your SSDs use. If you look above as it does not support TRIM in RAID you need to leave your pc on idle for an hour or so for it to do its thing

My PC is always on when I am at home, sometimes its on idle for 2-3+ hrs and I'd say thats at least 2-3 times a week.

OK i have these set up in RAID 0 , how do i disable indexing on the drive? is it a case of right clicking C: drive, clicking properties, then unticking the bottom box below the pie chart??

What other tweaks are needed within windows?

Control Panel -> Indexing Options

Remove anything on the C: drive if you want, or just make sure they're all set to only index properties and not contents in the advanced settings.

Also make sure that defrag is disabled; Windows 7 left it enabled for my Vertex 2E.

It looks a tad lower than what I get with the same drives.

Have you got the Intel RST drivers installed?

Edit: Just ran ATTO on mine, here's the results for comparison;

Yes i think have it installed, it installed the intel rapid storage user interface program that shows me all my hard drives etc - there was the F6 option too on there which i didnt download as i thought you didnt need it for Win 7

what are the rest of your specs mate?

Check to make sure 'write-back cache' is enabled.

Specs...erm.. E8600@stock, Rampage Formula, 4GB RAM and two of them there SSDs in RAID0 (and some other drives for storage).

Oh and Win7 x64 :)

Write back cache now enabled, and a little better.

But still nowhere near yours - spec as in sig.... not sure what else i can do really

WEI score is 7.9 though :)

Don't really know either, tbh. Did the OS install go ok? I ask because I ballsed mine up the first time I did it and had to HDDErase the drives.

I get 7.9 on WEI too :)

Just as a note of caution in case you don't already know - try not to run ATTO too much as it'll slow your drives down, apparently.

Just thinking of the things I've done from within the OS.

-Installed RST drivers and enabled the write-back cache.
-Disabled Defrag from auto defragging.
-Ran WEI
-Left the pagefile alone, left indexing alone.

Thats about all I did iirc, I also let my PC sit logged off for a couple of hours a day too.

Have you got the drives plugged into the first two SATA ports?

I actually installed the first time thinking it was in raid when it wasn't, so used the raid utility the second time and it went without a hitch. Have the same as you except indexing is off.

I dont intend to run ATTO for a while now. I did use crystalmark bench by mistake once too. Hope that didn't mess it up

Ah, did you HDDErase the drives after the failed install?

If not then maybe that's where the problem (if it is a problem) lies - one of the drives already had stuff on it and the other didn't.

I don't know how relevant that is in this case however, but I've read (on the OCZ forums and elsewhere) numerous things that say it's always better to HDDErase the drives when reinstalling the OS, especially if you notice slightly lower transfer rates.

I have HDDErased the drives and reinstalled windows with updates, ATTO as follows:

Looks like its the best i am going to get - its not as if im going to miss the slight loss but its close enough for my liking - must be the limit of my board or something - still tho it is blistering nonetheless :p

Now to set my comp to shut off / sleep after an hour idle :)
