Looking to improve my photography

Can anyone recommend some decent books or websites that take me through the basics like apertures, ISO's, exposures, framing etc etc?

Ideally, I would like to see something showing the same image shot with different settings and then explaining what each has on the image.

For example, a flower shot at 100 ISO with a slow exposure vs. at a 400 and quicker or changing the DOF or fiddling with white balance.

It would save me the significant time involved in taking 15 photos writing every setting down and trying to work it out frame by frame and bearing in mind when you make two or more changes each can have a subtle or even different effect during the interaction.

Many thanks

NB

Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson is the book that always gets mentioned in threads like this. I found it very useful.

EDIT: This might be worth a watch,

Had difficulty following that Snapchick youtube link. Everytime she was laying there on that pool table my attention tended to wander ;-)

I've just given this a watch, it goes over most of the basics.

It doesn't point out that sometimes the metering in your camera isn't perfect, and in cases the most artistically pleasing picture isn't the technically correct one.

Because of this there is also a thing called 'exposure compensation' this is an adjustment you can use to either 'under expose' (make darker) or 'over expose' (make lighter) the image.

Go to adult college, and learn with a tutor. i have been going over a year and have improved 10 fold.
