Looking to make Oblivion look as good as possible?

My bro is really interested in playing Oblivion and I'd like to make it look as good as possible for him.

All I currently know is to turn up all the settings in the pre-game launcher, turn up all the settings in the game, including HDR, with Bloom off and then to 'force' AA from the nvidia control panel.

So what I'm looking for is, any advice/links etc that I can use to make Oblivion look as good as possible.

I'm especially interested in texture mods and ways to increase the draw distance of the game, and also confirmation on how to use AA with HDR.

I have a GTX 570 so hopefully I won't be limited as to what I can do, even though I have a 2560x1440 screen and am hoping to use x4 SSAA which I think would mean my GPU would need to render frames at x4 larger resolution. Which would mean something like rendering at 10240*5760

aaah, i remember the days of modding the hell out of Oblivion and playing for hundreds of hours...

There are literally hundreds of mods that i would recommend, but these are the main graphical ones that i use-

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2536

and

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19370

will make it look absolutely stunning.

Also, this mod will make the cities look much better.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16513

there are also individual mods for each city, which add things like NPC's, and the Imperial city one adds much more to the city, is essential imo.

enjoy

BTW, don't forget to install the unofficial Oblivion Patch, and at least one complete overhaul mod:)

EDIT- i forgot quarls- http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18498. Best texture mod. not sure of its compatability with natural environments though. Don't think i used them at the same time.

So the only texture pack I should concern myself with initially is Qarl's.

Other things on the to do list:

Install an unofficial oblivion patch
Find a mod to increase draw distance
Find a way to get HDR + AA to work

Anything else I should know?

Thanks for your help

edit: Could you forward me the imperial city one?

i am almost certain that it will be compatible with the other mods. All 3 of them are excellent!;)

I have been searching for it mate, as i really can't remeber what it is called.

I think it might be the ImpeREAL mod?
or it could actualy be part of the better cities mod actually

another great mod is Elven Cartographers- gives you a really nice map

btw, i don't know how much you know about mods, but you will also need oblivion mod manager (OBMM)

Is Unique Landscapes close to being 'done'? A while ago I was told it's amazing but very "unfinished".

It is updated very regularly. I haven't played Oblivion for about a year, but it was fine for me then.
There have probably been a dozen updates since then. You used to have to dl them all individually!!
All areas are developed by different people, and are added to the compilation when finished, or downlaoded seperately

Unless Qarl's, Natural Environments and Unique Landscapes all replace separate files and don't interfere with each other, I have trouble seeing how they're compatible? How does it work?

Can anyone confirm AA works with HDR if you force AA?

You need to have a read through this thread...

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18247684

Those three mods do replace separate files. AA does indeed work when forced with HDR.

Thanks for the confirmation, only thing I'd like to know now, is do these mods help increase draw distance? and if not, how do I increase DD?

edit: Also does anyone know if I should install those 3 mods first of the unofficial oblivion patch?

Unofficial oblivion patch should comr first in load order as far as i can remember.
Texture patches near the end, but someone can confirm this?

for draw distance, read the link i gave you-

http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_1.html

Those mods will probably increase DD anyway, but if you want to do it yourself, read through the tweak guide guide

I've installed the unofficial patch and oblivion's mod manager. Using mod manager I've installed Qarl's textures (the little boxes next to each file have turned blue), I've gone into Utilities and made sure that "Textures" and "Generate archive invalidation..." are checked. When I load up Oblivion it's still using the old textures. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

make sure your in game graphics settings have textures on "large".

The only things showing up are "Oblivion (Master)" and "Unofficial Patch", they're both checked. I take it that means I haven't installed the textures pack correctly.

Not sure about quarls texture pack. But all mods show up in Data and have to be checked. Are you sure you put them in the right folder?
Did you use OBMM?

this link has installation advice for Quarls- http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18498

tesnexus is the best place to get mods for oblivion imo, as it gives more installation advice

Any mod that doesn't have a .esm or .esp associated to it (usually texture or mesh only mods) will not show up in data files, regardless of whether it was installed through OBMM or manually....it must be something else. Check in data/textures/ folder and there should be architecture -landscape folders with all the textures in there.
