Hi guys, I'm looking to change the colour of my kitchen tops, but do not want it to be a permanent thing.

I have thought about using vinyl wrap, but the way my sink is, it is hard to get it just right as there are some curves which would make it difficult, I have done a quick test run with some spare wrap, but it didn't look good.

One of the ways I'm thinking of doing it, is to use plastidip to put a layer over the tops, then paint over that, and if it doesn't look as nice as I had hoped, I can always remove it without damaging the original tops.

Alternatively, would painting over vinyl wrap work, I think any issues that I may have around the sink, I can fix with a few layers of paint to make it smooth?

I am the homeowner, so no need to worry about permission, I just want to be able to revert if it doesn't turn out that nice.

If a vinyl wrap removing sink and hob is probably better

Paint has the potential to look pretty bad. Even a plastidip due to the large flat surface areas to cover.

Laminate and stone type tops are pretty heat/stain/spill resistant under kitchen conditions. Paint and vinyl not comparable. Even solid wood tops can easily be refinished incase of stain / burn

What colour are you thinking? Carbon effect would look interesting.

I can't remove the sink, it's hard to explain, but it's an all-in-one unit, with an inner curve, making wrapping difficult.

I would have it in white, I've found that rustoleum have a peelable paint in white, I'm thinking of using that, and then adding a layer of resin, or any hardening top coat to give it a slight gloss and protection.

Surely what ever you put on the tops isn’t going to be hard wearing enough? Unless you don’t cook and just have the kitchen for looks any vinyl or paint is just going to make really badly and even if it doesn’t look naff on day one it will do within a month!
