basically as the title says.

Looking to put together a small as possible apu system to replace a acer revo & dm1 pavillion e450.

main uses:
watching videos.
Autocad
a bit of world of tanks and eve online.

i was thinking a long the lines of : (only need motherboard and processor)

FM2+ Motherboard £39
A10 7700K Kaveri £111

although im not sure if a A10 6800 OR 5800K would be better or even a A8 6600K?

is there a difference between fm2 and fm2 + or would a kaveri work on either?

for the mintue i think im going to go for the followwing for £102

AMD APU A8 6600K 4.2GHz

Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-DS2 Socket FM2+ VGA DVI 7.1 Channel Audio mATX

so i have the option of kaveri when it drops in price

That's a good spec.. With the ability to step up if you need it.

Fast RAM aides the IGP on APU's. What speed is your current memory? For £60 you can get 8gb 2400mhz.. (if your board accepts it) irs shown to increase fps by around 15%-20%

Personally for the sake of £9, I'd stick the Kaveri in there but hey, money burns a hole in my pocket! :)

/edit, nvm I mis-read. Having said that I'd still spend the extra on Kaveri...

finally purchsed a system to put together. hopefully to replace my acer revo RL100 (AMD Athlon II Neo dual-core processor K325) which just managed to play diablo 3 and WOT. although this system will live under the tv as a media streamer and blueray player which is does a great job as.

new system came in well over budget due having misplaced my ram and PSU:mad:. hopefully for £220 i would like to think its an ok spec/price.

AMD A10 7850K Black Edition

Biostar A88M Socket FM2+ VGA DVI 8-Channel Audio Micro ATX Motherboard

Crucial 4GB DDR3 1866Mhz Ballistix Elite Memory Module CL9 1.5V - will be doubling up on this in the future.

Powercool T01B Slim Black case - 65mm x 310mm x 245mm (W x H x D) so only 25mm wider than the revo and practically the same size overall which is a bonus.

Nice system and the right choice of processor, but IMO a missed opportunity going for slower RAM (unless you plan to OC it). These APUs benefit massively from 2133MHz or 2400MHz RAM.

i was planning to overclock the ram. but at £35 for the single ram unit i may just swap it at a later date for some 2400mhz units.

shame the cpu wont take higher ram as the board supports 2600mhz.

finally got my system put together but a fair few problems.

ram overclocked easily to 2133mhz but the cl went pretty high so im not sure if 1866mhz with a lot lower cl would be better?

amd catalyst cant see the graphics on the 7850k? hence games wont run as direct x cant see the graphics:(

My intuition says that higher bandwidth (MHz) will be more important than lower latency (CL), but the only way to tell would be to benchmark each configuration in games.

well parts arrived and managed to squeeze it into a powercool 65mm deep case.

due to the shallow depth of the case it looks like im going to be sticking with the stock cooler due to constraints although i might mod it to take a larger fan.

AMD overdrive reads a therm margin of anywhere between 45 - 61C with stock cooler when playing games. so either it seems to work ok or the drivers arent reading correctly yet.

so major cable management need.... (which will never get done)

a few software problems to iron out first. As ive freshly installed window 7 but for some reason my browsers arent accepting certificates, and im sure this is stopping EA Origins from connecting online so no free BF4 for me :(
