Looking to replace motherboard

What drivers are you using for the on board sound, did you use the drivers from the CD that came with the MB or the Windows drivers. Looking on Gigabytes website they have windows 8.1 drivers for the VIA audio on the board but they are pretty recent and you need to update the MB bios to support them.

It's like the mic is disabled or muted as that would give you the symptoms of having no volume control on windows device manager is everything installed ok and no missing drivers or issues (exclamation marks on anything) ?

Can you try the webcam on another PC just to rule out and try both the usb2 and 3 sockets for the input.

As for a replacement MB the one you have is standard ATX size wise which means that any other ATX board with physically fit and if you stick with Z77/LGA1155 then the processor/memory you have should be OK. It's a lot of cost/hassle and could throw up other issues with the new set up.
