Hi people
I'm fed up of crossfire and the heat and noise of my graphics cards so am looking to upgrade to a single card solution.
I game at 1440p 60hz only and like to run maximum settings without compromise if possible.
The 1080 seems VERY expensive so will a 1070 or any of the new AMD cards be ok for me?
Cheers

980Ti or 1070 are your best options.

I've just done the same (7990 to 980Ti on 1440P) and although not a huge step in performance everything is smoother, less buggy and runs without fuss. Highly recommend an upgrade

AMD don't have anything I'd consider worth upgrading to currently.

It depends if that cryptic message on Twitter from AMD was due to Vega being launched in the next month or so,or Zen.

Thanks 980ti and the 1070 seem very similar price wise so would the 1070 be the better buy as its newer tech?
Any preferred brand for reliability and customer service?

The 980Ti is overall slightly faster than the 1070 when both are overclocked and is cheaper. However it uses more power and has less RAM.

The 1070 may do a bit better in VR and DX12 as they mature.

How much is your budget? Because at £320 you can get a new 980Ti or some Fury.

True as someone mentioned above, Vega 10 might be out in October. If you are not in critical need to upgrade then wait.

After that, second hand 390X will deal with that resolution at half the money of a GTX1070.

Imho get an GTX980Ti ~£330 if your budget is not enough for a GTX1080.

980ti sli, get it now whilst its cheap.

I went from 7970 xfire to 980ti sli and the difference in performance was amazing (also the hole in my pocket! £1200 at the time :s)

Sli also isnt broken like xfire

I'd say the sensible option is to grab the 1070. I dont know how anyone could recommend you last gen hardware e.g. 980ti 6GB when you can get an 8GB 1070 with lower power consuption, and most importantly current driver support looking to the future... :)

I've given up trusting AMDs PR and waiting for them to under-deliver.

People also over-analyse throw-away comments from AMD, creating false expectation.

Look at that Twitter comment, for example. It showed a shell of a building, which is likely to be the location of an un-specified AMD event.

That's it; that's all we know.

People equating that with "Zen coming in 2016!!" are adding 2+2 and getting over 9000.

A bit like last week when Nvidia flew over a bunch of youtubers to an event, everyone thought it was for a 1080ti but turned out to be about Pascal mobile...:p

I think folks see what they want to see when it comes to "hints" at future releases.
