Evening folks,

I am sure many have had the same dilemma, but I am finding my excellent monitor is starting to feel a little aged and would like one with better connectivity and a slimmer profile having downsized to a smaller desk.

I am still after a 24" and was looking at this particular monitor:

I was wondering if anyone has any experience or opinion on how it might compare, as the one thing I have noticed was the resolution being slightly lower at 1920x1080.

Why is the Dell 2407WFP such a great screen. I'm still rocking mine in vertical portrait mode next to my Dell 29 superwide as a second screen. It still looks fantastic. A true 'classic' monitor I reckon.

I think it'll be a step down, tbh. You lose both vertical resolution and height, plus it's an IPS panel which means poorer black levels than the 2407's VA panel.

If I had to replace a 2407 right now for less than £250 I'd probably go for the 27" GW2760 if the extra width isn't a problem (it's the same height as a 2407, just wider) or the 24" GW2460 if there's no room for a 27.

You'd still lose vertial res, but both screens use VA panels so image quality will be fairly similar to the 2407.

The real trouble is the 2407 was a really good monitor and there's nothing directly comparable on the market now. I still have one that I use in portrait mode and the one and only contemporary monitor I've used that is unquestionably better in every way is the BenQ BL3200PT, but that's a 32" £500+ screen.

Hey,

It is a great screen! Maybe it can hang on for a bit longer..

DrBomb Thanks for coming back, sorry I didn't respond earlier as I've not been about.
I'm just curious as you specifically said less than £250, if I was willing to stretch to that budget are there any other models you would throw into the mix?

Its the same resolution as your current monitor, different aspect ratio. Yours 16x10 that 16x9.

its not the old dell is Resolution: 1,920 x 1,200,
and I dislike the 16 by 9 ,if you go up to a 1440 27inch the vertical height is more comparable to your existing monitor

So after the advice on this thread, my thoughts are immediately that the transition to the dell I linked to is more of a sidestep than an upwards one.

I am going to save up for a while with the view of replacing it with a 27" 2560x1440, which hopefully doesn't require a dual GPU configuration!

Lol, I have exactly the same problem! Those Dell's from yesteryear were just so darn good that nothing feels compelling... And I quite agree that you don't want to drop down to 1080 vertical, you'd be surprised at how much you'd miss that 10% of pixels. Only sensible choice is 1440p or higher.

2560x1440 is, I believe, completely viable on a single GPU, as long as its a 770 or similar/better.

Check out plenty of reviews before buying though, your old Dell has a particularly good colour gamut and you could easily end up looking at duller hues :S

I keep being told this, I forget the thing cost me £800 back in the day clearly there's a good reason for that!

a 770 is the territory I was looking at so at least I'm covered on that angle :-)

That AOC is a nice looking piece of kit, compares well to the Dell then by the sounds of it?
