I am really rather clueless when it comes down to pcs, I've always bought a pre made system in the past however the cpu in this one is really looking to let me down, I'm still happy with all the other parts so don't want to dish out another £1000 odd pound for a full system, I have no idea what CPUs would fit or what the best approach would be in to upgrading it, specs are:

Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
CPU
Intel Pentium G3258 @ 3.20GHz
Haswell 22nm Technology
RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 800MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
MSI Z97 PC Mate(MS-7850) (SOCKET 0)
Graphics
GF276 (1920x1080@60Hz)
4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (MSI)
Storage
111GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 120GB (SATA (SSD))
931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1ER162 (SATA )
Optical Drives
ASUS DRW-24F1MT
Audio
ASUS Xonar DGX Audio Device

Any help as to what would fit and work would be great :)

Have a look for a 2nd hand 4790K that should be the best CPU for your motherboard, can be found for about £170, and would be a fairly large jump from what you have now and last for a good few years :)

Think they have jumped up a bit on the second hand market , they did crash by £100 when 6 cores came out but now even with 8 cores coming, intel choefage and prices rising they have gone up to normal £250 odd pricing before Coffeelake :/
