Hey guys

I'm after a graphics card for my spare system that I will use at my parents house to play SWTOR. Orginally I was thinking of spend £100 and getting the 1GB 6850 thats on offer today. However the other option is to spend a little bit more (around £200) and upgrading my current Graphics card, a 5850, and putting the 5850 in the spare PC.

Is the 560Ti 2GB a decent upgrade to my 5850?

Thanks

GTX560Ti/6950/6970 ain't much of an upgrade from a 5850, which is why the OP should wait for next gen cards.

Agreed, which is why i suggested he wait.

Having said that i noticed a nice performance boost from a similar upgarde - forced on me as my visiting brother needed my 460. And if he's not prepared to wait then the 560Ti does give a tidy boost.

I would still be inclined to wait though...

im not good at waiting dont you just hate it. it the best advice from what ive seen lately, its an unusual time as normally in the pc world you could always be waiting for the next best thing.

True there’s always the argument that you should just buy now as whatever you buy will be outdated in 6 months’ time etc. ..

But there's always a cut off moment when it's advisible to wait - especially when the hardware on the cusp of being released is known to be big improvement (ignoring BD) - and in this particular instance the performance of the next gen of cards is going to be considerable and there’s not long to wait.

I only updated out of my brother’s necessity for a gfx card (I’m lovely) – I had every intention of waiting for these next gen cards which are looking mighty from reports.

But as you still have a pretty respectable gfx card, while you tick off the days, the wait shouldn't feel so long :)

went from a ati 5850 to a 6950 which unlocked to a 6970 and tbh it stomps on the 5850 in certain games in others you dont notice much .

bf3 has gone to double the fps and higher setting so for me personally well worth it.

also other games like dirt 3 are like turbo charged now and take a game you like into the next level of enjoyment.
