i currently runniung as follows:

i7 950
16 gb ddr 3 triple chanel memory
evga 1080 ftw
asus rampage 2 extreme mobo
win 10

i want to upgrade my cpu however i am going to have to upgrade my mobo as well and possibly my ram. im looking at getting an i7 cpu with six cores from a one of the previous generations of i7's but i dunno what one and what the best choice of mobo and ram to go along with it. so can anyone help me out with some suggestions?

6700k I7 has 4 cores 8 threads on a z170 chipset 5820k/6800k has 6 cores and 12 threads on a x99 chipset, for gaming the 6700k is the better option up to dual gpu. If your planning tri sli which is not that good or need a cpu for with plenty of cores for programs/ renderring , etc then the later is a good option.

So what do you need ?

i will be gaming, i currently have one gpu and maybe a second at a later date. i would like 6 cores but i would be willing to take a 4 core i7 if need be. im not looking for the best/newest set up but it needs to be pretty good.

You have to overclock the 5820k to about 4.5ghz to match the performance of the 6700k at stock, there is the 6800k but that isnt much faster than the 5820k and cost more.

6700k gets my vote .

Decision and budget please ?
im expecting to pay £200-350 for the cpu. im not looking to oc the cpu as i have no idea what im doing
