As my rig is almost 4 years old, I feel it’s time for an upgrade. Having done some research on the forums, I’m looking at replacing the current with the following:

Monitor: Viewsonic vx2025wm 21inch to a Dell UltraSharp U2515H 25"

Graphics: 2x Radeon 6950 SLI (crossfire) to either a MSI GeForce GTX 970 or MSI Radeon R9 290X (both 4096MB variants; from what i've read, there doesn't seem to be much between them)

Harddrive: Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD to make everything run a bit faster

Already have an i5 2500K mobo, 8GB ram & 750W PSU, so should be sorted on those fronts. Win 7 64bit.

Any opinions / advice / alternative suggestions welcome! Not looking to compete with the top end SPECs, just an upgrade to keep me playing the latest games for another 3-4 years.

What psu and case do you have?

What games do you like and is there a budget for these upgrades?

Do you have a SSD?

@stulid:
PSU is a Corsair TX 750W V2 High Performance Power Supply
Case is a Cooler Master CM-690 II lite dominator
Games are everything from the little indies to the big AAAs like FarCry 4, Ass Creed, Witcher 3, GTA V etc.
Budget of around £1000 for all 3 (monitor/gfx/HDD)
My current SSD is 60GB which only has room for windows on it.

@Shivy011:
CPU is overclocked, motherboard is Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P Intel Z68 (socket 1155) DDR3

With that budget you could get a 970/980 or 290X with the SSD you have picked and a 1440p monitor which would be very nice indeed :)

Cheers Stulid, I'll probably go for your suggestions.

I did look at the Crucial SSD, but wasn't sure on the difference between MX100 & BX100 varieties.

MX200 is the faster one but thats like comparing a Ferrari against a GTR, both still damn quick.

Also I would have a 850Evo rather than the MX200.
