Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my PC to the Ryzen 7 5800x, my budget is around £700-800 as i know that i need a new motherboard, cpu cooler and memory with the new processor. I do a lot of video editing in premiere pro and after effects and would like to game from time to time on it. The system I have now is getting on a bit now, I purchased it in 2014 and has done well to last this long with me only upgrading the memory and graphics card but I would like to make use of the new technology. It's been a while since I've fully kept up with the technology so I'm unsure what parts work best with each other regarding the chipsets and such.

My current setup is:
Intel Core i7-4770K
Prolimatech Blue Megahalems CPU Cooler
Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI EXTREME Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
32gb DDR3 Memory
Nvidia 1080 graphics card
SuperFlower Leadex Platinum 1200W Fully Modular "80 Plus Platinum" Power Supply - Black

Would I need to purchase a new power supply for the new parts I install, any help would be appreciated. I would ideally like a motherboard with a decent amount of I/O as my current motherboard without breaking the bank but it's not the end of the world if I can't get that.

B550 board allows one nvme pcie4 drive and 1 pcie3 drive...not sure what you have. If transferring a lot of files all the time then an X50 board with 2 pcie gen4 drives would be better. don't know if you wanted wifi...this board is ok, lacks front usb c front i/o, but on offer..if you don't need wifi then the B550 tomahawk @ £129 is good, X570 Tomahawk at £189 solid also but out of stock on Ocuk. If you search you can find the 5800X for a lot less. Crucial ballistix 3600C16 sweet spot atm, rgb version add £20. @mickyflinn is right about alderlake, 12600k up there with 5800X but mobo cost more...solid boards like the z690 tomahawk ddr4 version is £259(will allow up to 4 gen4 nvme and pcie5 gpu slot), but cpu is £260 oem so much like to like, and use same ram

if you want 12700k add £120, performance with 5900X or above
