Looking to upgrade the CPU only.

Hey viperfx :)

Lets give this a try . . .

Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core E5200
  • 12.5 x 200 = 2.50GHz
  • 12.5 x 266 = 3.32GHz
MB Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T)
  • CPU Clock Ratio [12X]
  • Fine CPU Clock Ratio [+0.5]
  • CPU Frequency 3.32GHz(266x12.5)
  • CPU Host Clock Control [Enabled]
  • CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) 266
  • Memory Frequency (Mhz) 800 - 800
The main thing here is to make sure once you change the FSB from 200 >> 266MHz that the memory frequency says 800 . . . If after you change the FSB the memory frequency says 1066 then you need to adjust the System Memory Multiplier (SPD) [Auto] option so the Memory Frequency reads 800 before you Save & Exit BIOS! :D

If you get that right we are on the way . . . the only thing that may be a small problem is vCore (CPU voltage) running on [Auto] . . . but we won't know that until you attempt to boot windows and run some Prime! ;)

Ok I change the System Memory Multiplier to 3.00A and it change to 800, im going to run prime now.

Very nice! :)

Keep it running Prime please . . . . still not quite there yet! . . . . 65°C full Prime95 load with the OverClocked chip under the stock cooler is spot on! :D

P.S: I noticed that Core #1 DTS won't fall below 50°C

dam i closed it sorry :( What do you want me to reach? 65 degrees?

Yea i was going to ask about core1 but I just thought it was being used all the time.

Basically the chip is now running a lot faster than its ever run in its life and we need to get it under pressure running Prime Small FFTs for as many hours as possible . . . minimum of one hour atm but before this clock moves on from 3.32GHz its gonna need a solid "8" hours of Prime Small FFTs . . .

If you can get the basic one hour Priming done then I want you to load up some games and see how they play and get a feel for the new speed . . .

However its "critical" that before you do any serious work that a thorough Prime session is complete . . . this is for your complete peace of mind (and mine) in order to know that our OverClocking work is good & robust!

Ok i understand now, il check back within an hour!

Thanks for the help so far!

EDIT - Ok heres the results for just over an hour

Its going very well viperfx :)

It seems that [Auto] vCore is taking care of supplying enough juice to the overclocked chip for the moment . . . if it was super "flakey" then Windows may not have loaded or Prime95 "Small FFTs" would have errors within minutes . . . . still to be totally sure its all working well its gonna need a solid "8" hour priming . . . this is probably best done overnight or during the day when your out . . . if prime finds an error it will let you know! :D

So for the moment I think thats enough work for tonight . . . maybe you should fire up a game and do some more enjoyable "stability" testing . . . with the chip going from 1700MHz to 3325MHz its now running 96% faster! . . . . that is a very reasonable speed increase there . . . the FSB is also running 33% faster (200 >> 266) and the memory fitted in the correct slots and now running properly in Dual Channel and offers 100% extra memory bandwidth!

  • DDR2-800 CAS6 15.0ns (64-bit) 3,200 MB/s
  • DDR2-800 CAS6 15.0ns (128-bit) 6,400 MB/s
maybe pop back over to the Can You Run It? website and see what it says now! ;)

Ok sure, il will leave it on overnight today after i test of black ops

Urm the CPU still fails the minimum requirements, however i think its because it does not take it the fact that its 3.2Ghz now.

"still fails the minimum requirements"

Damn that must be a monster game that only a handful of people around the world will be able to play! :D

The overwhelming majority of gamers own a DualCore and your now in a pretty elite group of people with 3.3GHz processing speeds!

Haha yea I just played the game on my friends account, and I did get good FPS. It still not smooth as say on a console, but i think it just may be the game.
Either way - its a massive improvement from before. The average FPS was basically 60FPS.

Hopefully if I run some recursive code, that will be faster too.

Its got to be faster! :D

I was just thinking maybe the fact Prime95 is running is not the best time to run a requirements test as the CPU has its hands somewhat full atm! ;)

P.S: make sure you make a high quality screenie of the completed Prime95 run . . . this is what we call The "money" shot . . . and will come in handy down the line when you come to sell the chip on . . .

If prime errors give us a holla and we can make a small adjustement to fix it . . . . once you done the long prime test continue to give the system a good set of Real-Word tasks to chew into and let me know how it performs!

I think its just that site, I did it on another site it shows that my cpu surpasses an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, not sure if that true though :)
Il find some taxing games if I can to test my PC, is there any other recommended methods for testing CPU's because I don't always have the time to play games.

Thanks for all the amazing help wayne, your amaaaaaazing :)

Prime 95 / Orthos / IBT / 3d mark.

That's all you need, I'd say running prime / orthos along with 3d mark over night in loop is all you'll need.

If the rig still runs fine when you wake up, you've got pretty much a stable OC.
Make sure you don't have a heating on as full pc running at full power all night can heat up the room quite high and seeing as your temps are getting close to 67-70c which is quite high for this CPU already it might result in crash.

This my friends is why it is always better to learn to build a PC yourself instead of letting a "friend" do it. He had your mem in the wrong slots, Heatsink on wrong and new CPU underclocked lol. I think your buddy that did all this owes you some beer.

Good work viperfx.
