Looking to upgrade

Hey all,

I had to massively downgrade recently and as such I can't even play games such as Starcraft 2 on lowest graphics without serious lag.
Because of my current income, I'm not looking to upgrade every part if possible, just the parts I need to be able to play Starcraft 2, Dragon Age 2. Basically graphics isn't so important to me as to just being able to play games with no graphical lag.

My current setup:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500

Motherboard: Gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3lr

Graphics: GeForce 7300 LE

RAM: 2048mb

PSU: OCZ (Unsure of the power it dishes out)

OS: Win 7 64bit

I was going to just buy a better graphics card, but then I was warned that it may not work with my other parts. I really don't have any idea what goes with what.

Thanks in advance.

You can fit any PCI-E GPU into that pc depending on the PSU, a ATI 5850 @ £89 is good value, so is a 5850 @ £108

can you find out the model of your PSU please?

Also 4GB of ram would be good.

I'd be wanting to up to 4GB of RAM along with that GPU upgrade if possible.

Might be worth scouting for 2nd hand parts.

Thanks for the replies, I can't see anything on the PSU that would show what model it is. Before pulling out the PSU to look at the sides I can't see, if I get the 5830/50 and install it would there be any damage done if the PSU isn't good enough?

It's possible that if it's really crap it may die and take hardware with it. Surely there must be some sort of info on the PSU you can find. :)

It's always possible that a PSU will take out your hardware. But that's doomsday scenario.
Much more likely it will just shut down if you ask too much of it. I've built and looked after my mates PCs over the last 20yrs and never had a PSU take anything else out yet.
Personally, I've been using a £50 Powercool 750w for a couple of years now and it's still working as far as I can tell.
Maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe it's less of an issue than some ppl imagine. :p

Even a 350-400w PSU of that brand should cope with that spec and graphics fine.

If I were you I'd get the 5850, and 4gb of Corsair XMS2 ram :)
