Looking to upgrade

I'm looking to upgrade in the next month or two as hopefully expecting a bit of a Christmas bonus which at this stage I don't know how much. My current stuff is listed in my signature.

I'm hoping to use my existing Antec P160 case and Enermax PSU, probably everything else will need to change. I already have 2 x WD 500GB HDD's brand new from an upgrade that I never did to use on this upgrade.

I don't use my PC for gaming, more general surfing, email some video stuff, odds & sods.

So what do you suggest? I tend to prefer AMD CPU in the past but they got problems now? Been out of touch for ages so very green on what's good or bad these days. Need also to update OS too of course as on XP Pro.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

I don't know what my budget is as we don't know what bonus we'll get. Just got to hit target by the year end which we should do by the way its going, then we'll get told what and when :-))

I think both CD/DVD drives are IDE, will investigate that too. For the cost I'd probably stick 8GB of memory in. Basically a complete new build but use old case and PSU, that should still be OK?

Still waiting to hear about our bonus. Although I don't use it for games at the moment I might be tempted to start.

Intend to go for Intel I5 2500K CPU and possibly Asrock Z68 Extreme 4 Gen 3 and at least 8GB memory, any particular better than others, GPU of some sort plus a couple of SATA CD/DVDRW drives. Don't need keyboard, mice, monitor, HDD's or OS. Guess I can't use my socket 939 Arctic CPU cooler and will need something different to the Intel supplied one. Decisions....decisions.
