Hi,

I am currently running:

Ryzen 5 1600
16GB RAM
960 Evo NVme 256GB
2 TB Samsung HDD
Radeon RX 480
Corsair TX 550W
Monitor running @ 144hz 1080p

I am looking to upgrade my system, mainly used for gaming and some word processing.

I have about £550 to spend and I am thinking that GPU might be best way to go. I am also looking into getting a 4K monitor that will be a separate purchase.

Cheers

If your looking to up your gaming to 4K then definitely consider GPU upgrade like you've mentioned... £550 will get your a massive boost, how old is your PSU?

Spend most of that money on the GPU. The problem is, £550 is a very weird price point in terms of GPUs. The RTX 2070 Super is probably the best value you can get atm. You will have about £50-£100 which you could reinvest later on a new CPU. The RTX 2080 Super is technically the next set up but generally it is poor value for money. But generally there is nothing else available in that performance range.

I've got a 980ti and have had it for a few years now and really struggling to upgrade thinking of waiting for the next gen

I think the best option is a gtx 2070 super for the price. Would the PSU suitable for this GPU?
Compared to Radeon RX 5700 XT 2070 it's hardly good value for money.
It can't even really do raytracing.
Unless you count 30-50% framerate drop to level of cheap cards as good performance.
Simply no current graphics card has good longevity.
And the more expensive it is, the worser it's going to be in holding its value, because of overpricing in the first place.
