looks like im going to upgrade everything so amd cpu next but how to decide which one

i was not intending to upgrade everything but i started so i might aswell finish the job, ive bought a new gfx/ram so all i need now is a fast cpu what do you think will go well with this system

Asus A8N-SLI Premium
AMD 3700 processor
ATI HIS x1950pro
2 gig (geil ram)

i was thinking about dual but do you need a good psu for dual core?
thanks for advice must be mad upgrading allready...

What PSU have you got. CPU wise is HAS to be an Opteron 165, they're cheap, easily available and clock like mad, plus they have 2x1MB L2 cache.

A 170 might be better due to the x10 multi ( instead of the x9 multi of the 165 ). His board would need to be able to do 280 - 300 htt to make the 165 a worthwhile upgrade over the 3700.
 
that will be why i can see it then... how much better is it compared to my AMD 3700 processor

they cant be that popular as the mains sellers dont seem to stock them

Stock its a little slower than the 3700 which is 2.2ghz, the Opteron 170 is 2Ghz and the 165 is 1.8Ghz. They both clock to around 3Ghz ish on high end air cooling, 2.8 should be pretty easy. Plus they're dual core, so you get all the benefits of that.
