Hey I'm looking at this for a water loop and want to check to see if I've picked anything drastically wrong before I go purchasing parts.

CPU Block:
EK-Supremacy Full Nickel

GPU:
2 x Watercool Heatkiller X^3

Pump and res:
XSPC D5 Vario Pump & EK-D5 X-RES with a 400mm res

Rads:
Either:
2 x XSPC EX420
or
1 x XSPC EX420
1 x XSPC RX240

not included fittings tubing and fluid.
How does that look to people, have I gone terribly wrong somewhere?

No problem there (assuming you have the option to physically fit a pair of 420 rads ofc), but then its usually "fittings tubing and fluid" where people make mistakes.

I have space for 2 triple fan rads yeah,
are 120mm rads better than 140mm? I've heard some things against 140 but wasn't sure how much it mattered.
where might I go wrong with "fittings tubing and fluid"?
or are you meaning people getting wrong size tubing for fittings? and the routing of the tubes?

Only thing wrong with 140.x radiators is the fans, choice is limited on decent pressure fans at 140mm, that said with 2x420 you should be ok with most fans.

Tubing and fittings can be tricky for the first time user if the user can't get their head around id/od and what fittings suit what tube.

I would list up what you plan to use to get a second opinion if you aren't sure.

Yep :)

Though I nearly purchased 3/8 ek compressions from ocuk at the weekend until I noticed they don't actually have any tubing that matches the compression od. The compressions are 3/8-1/2 & ocuk only stock 3/8-5/8 tubing.

Yeah that annoyed me to be honest, seems strange to sell one thing that forces you to buy from another site hence why I didn't link any tubing as I didnt want to link another site

@stuie
Hmm very interesting article, might have to read into it more, if you can get comparable pressure from a larger rad those results are promising, obviously that's not comparing the different fans you could put on each size but those limitations are explained and discussed

To be honest......I dunno about 140mm...
I think I'll draw the rads out on the case and see how it look and if the 140mm will cause any problems/ make it crowded because I know the 120mm will fit and have better fans available

Also, if I have those rads will the difference between 120 and 140 make a diff if I have 2 triple fan rads?

A pair of 420s with something like apaches on should have zero problems keeping those components cool, as mentioned above, the surface area of the larger rads counters the lower static fans.

140mm apaches or vipers good static pressure and airflow (vipers slightly more powerful and add a splash of yellow into the mix.
I use 120 mm vipers on my ex360 rad (6 in push pull) keep 2600K @ 4.5 50c in prime blend test and they are only running at 700 rpm constant and 4 x 140mm vipers @ 750 rpm as intakes in switch 810 (they keep gtx 580 sli cool - until i can find some blocks for them)
