I have a Dell 2407WFP, I've had it for a few years however it now likes to turn itself off, and I have to move the power connection slightly to get it to go back on. There's less and less places that the power cord will sit at with the monitor working. I suspect pretty soon it'll be near unusable.

I think it's less than 5 years old (I'm going to struggle to find proof of purchase though). Am I right in thinkign that they come with a 5 year warranty and Dell would repair it under said warranty?

That aside, are newer monitors significantly better than this one? The blacks blacker, colours better etc? Is it a good excuse for an upgrade?

I haven't done anything yet. That's definately on the list of things to do!

The monitor comes with a 3 year warranty which runs out in a month (I've just checked my emails). So this may be an opportune time for it to start failing. I managed to navigate Dell's rather nasty we-don't-want-to-support-you site.

Sadly I bought it from a competitor (OcUK was out of stock at the time) on a well known auction site. They do have their own website so I've contacted them asking for a number to use to speak to Dell.

Dell will do nothing without the right numbers, serial number is not the right number of course, because I'm never going to lose that. They want to make sure I have to give them a number I'm unlikely to have...

I'll need to check up my loft to see if I've kept the box. I'm pretty sure I will have.

But if it is faulty I think I'm going to run into a problem. Dell seem to be saying the warranty is 3 years from when the vendor bought it, rather than 3 years. So although I bought it 2 years 10 months and 29 days ago, the vendor may have bought it 3 years ago.

I very much suspect that neither the vendor nor Dell will do anything to help me here unless they absolutely have to.

Which means I'm considering that it might be time to shop for a new monitor. Or at least decide what monitor I'd buy if I had to. The way this monitor is blinking out on me I reckon a week or two and it'll be gone.

Tasks for tomorrow : Find a new monitor that I'd buy. Replace the power cord. Find the box up the loft... :)
