Loosing WIFI after computer turned off for a day

I have a USB WIFI adaptor on my desktop. If the PC is turned off over night it will no longer connect to my WIFI when turing on normally. To get it to reconnect I have to turn the PC off, reset my router and power the PC back on. I've tried reinstalling the drivers/changing the USB port the adaptor its connected to. No other device has a problem. I'm guessing its something to do with the IP address. When the PC is 'disconnected' the router still shows up on the available WIFI list on Win 10 but will not connect unless going through the turning off thing.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had it running on whatever drivers Win 10 installs, there was no options to select as far as I could see. I also tried downloading the driver suite from the manufacture but didnt notice any option. I'll definitely go double check, maybe there is something in the power managment settings. But for it to still show all available WIFI in the area I doubt it has shut off.

Yeh in advanced power management under usb.

I also think there are setting in the adapter setting themselves or even in the settings if you go via device manager

Random thought... Do you have a static IP manually assigned on the PC, and does the router have a lease time for IP addresses?

If the lease time is running out the router isn't accepting a connection after the time has expired.

Make sure the router is set to never expire the lease time. Check the PC is added to the list of permanently assigned IP addresses on the router And if the IP isn't manually assigned on the PC side, maybe try setting it up and see if you have the same issue.

Honestly I have no idea. I have never had WIFI problems before so I'm going into new ground. No other computer/device is having problems so its probaby the PC settings. I'll look up how to assign IPs. Thanks.

Router says lease time is 1 day. Could this be a problem just for one device? Maybe the WIFI adaptor on the offending PC does not like the 1 day lease.

Highly possible. There should be a setting somewhere in the router that will allow you to assign the IP permanently. If you set it from the PC side it may limit some of the functions on the router as it may not show up in the assigned list of devices.

What router do you have? Should be pretty easy to find a tutorial to find out how to change the lease setting.

But when you restart the router that resets that 1 day lease which would explain why after it has been off for so long it then doesn't work. Which is odd, as it should just refresh with a new IP unless it is manually assigned on the PC for whatever reason.

Just make sure that under the PC WiFi settings the IP is set to auto assigned.

Set a wifi channel manually and try a few different channels (you'll just have to test them over time), it might be something external periodically interfering with the particular channel the adapter is choosing when on automatic.
