Ok so as some might know I traded in my PS3 for a 360 elite during the week ( Halo junkie..couldn't help it ) and will be replacing my PS3 at xmas.

Anyway, well the guide has been freezing up on me since I got it, it freezes for 30 seconds up to a minute at worst and then everything is fine.

Have been reading over at avforums and quite a few other elite owners have experienced the same issue, with live congestion due to Halo 3 and faulty hard drives amoung the suspects ( one elite owner rang ms support and they said it was the hdd and are sending him out a replacement ).

Well has anyone else experienced this problem and should I ring ms to see if they will send me out a replacement hdd or should I take it back to the retailer for a replacement.

Also I got an error message when I turned the machine on this morning ( E78 ) which points towards a hdd error.

Abit disheartned by this after having went through 3 premiums when the 360 first launched.

Ideas / advice much appreciated
 
Holy hell, you traded your PS3!? I didn't know that.

I don't think you need to be too worried, it isn't a console error, and the HDD's are new so it is possible that there is a problem.
I've also had horrible lag on the dashboard lately, ever since Halo3 came out so I guess that's definitely a strong reason for it (Live congestion as you said).

I honestly didn't know you traded your PS3, I'm shocked, but I am happy to have you as someone I can play once more on Xbox Live.

Try Halo3 tomorrow when most people are at work and see if you get the same problems. If so, get onto MS support regarding the HDD. It's the first error I've heard regarding the 120gb, but as I don't know many people with one I'm not surprised.
 
Yeah mate, no PS3 until xmas ( although could work out well for me as the 40gig version rumours keep building up, could mean a super sweet bundle for the price of the old one ).

Will wait until the morning and try it again, the Halo 3 factor seems probable for the dashboard and marketplace running slow, and I think the new features Halo introduced to live could be killing the guide for me as updating the friends list could be doing it and causing it to freeze / slow down.
 
Mine has locked up 3 or 4 times tonight when using the guide button and looking at friends lists or recent players, noticed gamertag pics taking ages to load as well and user profiles, so I am putting it down to Live being hammered.

Yep, that's exactly what I had. I was going through all my friends playing Halo3 to see whether they were in Campaign or Multiplayer, it was around 15 friends and it must have taken me around 10 minutes to check them all.

Xbox.com has really been struggling too. Halo3 may have broken Xbox Live.
 
Had this problem the past week or so.

When i want to get rid of the guide it just stay there with nothing on it for ages. Then finally goes away. Just happened before i clicked on this thread. :p

My launch day 360 locked up on the guide last night too. Now I haven't seen that happen since back during the PGR3 days during the 360's first few months in December 2005. XBL itself has been shaky as hell too so I wonder if Halo3 is to blame...
 
You trade ps3 for 360, and you're looking to lord for help?

my dash is running slower than normal when looking at friends too. so i defnately think its due to live being hammered.

Same. I think mine was on for around a minute.

Personally, I take it back to the retailer asap to get a replacement
 
mine has never locked up untill halo 3 was released i would defo say its to do with the xbox live server load.
 
They need to make the Guide less clunky. I preferred the Halo 2 Xbox Live setup with the friends list as a seperate list for each game, it was better than waiting for the slow guide.
 
My box has been crashing since Halo was released. Its taking longer to log on, to read and send messages etc. Pressing the guide button in game while Halo is loading in the background also seems to cause funky lockups.

I think live is just getting hammered by the number of people playing.
 
Glad to see its not just mine thats throwing up server errors on xbox.com and system blade. I was locked for about 2 minutes solid last night.
