Im losing 50% grunt with my 8800gts but if i reinstall the drivers it works fine for a while then it happens again.
Any ideas what it could be
Thanx

Sounds like its throttling the clock speeds, have you used rivatuner to monitor the temps and clock speeds whilst playing.

Right, tried that and speeds and temps stay the same. Temp is 67c in battlefield 2. Im running a 8800gts and a quad core and im getting 40odd frames. I was getting 100 before

Is it the 320Mb version? (Thinking about a known slow-down (memory leak/inefficient memory usage bug, Nvidia are slow at resolving, especially with the 320mb version)

Does it run at the 100fps normally and then slow down to 40fps?

Also, 100fps is the upper limit for bf2. You can change that upper limit by bringing down the console and typing: game.lockfps 200 (200 being your new upper limit, you can type anything you want I believe).

Press the ` key (Next to the number 1 key). That will bring down the console. Then type as mentioned above :)

That will let you get more of an upper limit with frames, but can you please answer the other questions I wrote, so we can help you more :)

Thanks,
Matthew

Its slow when i go into the game but ive got rid of rivatuner and its fine. Is there something i wasnt doing in rivatuner that maybe i should have done, settings etc. I had it overclocked to 600 from 550 core and 900 ram from 800. Temps seemed fine like

Keep playing for a while and see if it's ok. Report later on this Evening.

The temp might have been ok for standard clocks, but when pushing it (even a little) sometimes cards just get flaky. Better designed cards throttle back, and better software will TELL YOU it's throttling. Don't think nvidia OR ati software tells you this though. (Bit like cars that don't tell you they are in 'get you home' mode on the ecu.

They have fixed the slowdown bug, in the beta's, not officials yet. :)

So this is a known problem then and i shouldnt worry?

Yeah, it just got fixed in the last 2 - 3 weeks. A bit out of order for Nvidia to leave it that long but at least it's sorted.

Gaming will be a better now ;).
