Intenret works then just randomly stops.
I can't browse using any of firefox, IE7 or chrome.
I can ping www.google.com, and utorrent continues to download.

If I restart windows it starts working again for a bit.

any ideas on how to diagnose.

I had EXACTLY the same on my g/f's PC. Internet would work for anywhere up to an hour at times then suddenly stop. I could still ping sites, I could still get anywhere on the home network, utorrent would still download (although not update tracker status) and windows could still get updates. Eveything looked fine & windows couldn't find any problems but the internet just wouldn't work.

She's on wireless and after battling with drivers, settings, updates, system restore I gave up and just done a format and reinstall.

Problem has now gone. ;)

This was in Vista x64 with a netgear wn111 btw

More info (connectyion type/router/modem/wired/wifi/power line etc.) would help but the basic principal is always the same, start removing variables until it works.

Google your router/modem, is it reported as having this issue in general with your OS? Are you running the latest firmware for the router/modem ? If you suspect it's a router issue connect directly to the modem if it's cable or borrow another router/modem if it's adsl. If that doesn't fix it then start looking at your network drivers and hardware, again make sure they are up to date and check for known issues. Can you test the connection with another PC/laptop ? If that works then assume it's your PC. Try another NIC etc. Also lay off utorrent while testing and see if that helps. If you are using an older router UT has been known to cause them to grind to a halt due to the large number of simultaneous connections.

i've been tinkering.
and its something utorrent is doing. I've had utorrent problems where it crashes my old router, but here i just start the program and my connection instantly drops. I can access internet from other PC's so its definitely doing something to my computer. But i can still ping websites.
But even connecting to my Netgear DG834GT becomes difficult.

The thing is i never changed any utorrent settings and have been using it for a while reliably for months. Never changed anything in fact and it just started acting up.
