Im with BT and have been with them for years. I have a 2mb connection. Im sharing the connection with a pc downstairs. Im connected to a wireless router via a wireless adapter and the downstairs pc is connected via an ethernet cable. The downstairs pc's connection is working perfect but mine is playing up. Im using the windows firewall and NOD32 anti virus software. My router has a firewall as well.

Everything was fine until a few days ago when Azureus and Limewire both stopped working. Azureus was saying java(w).exe is unable to act as a server due to firewall. Limewire wont even start because it says a firewall is blocking it. So i turned off windows firewall, un-installed all java, azureus and limewire, run a spyware scan using spyware doctor and a virus scan. Re-installed java azureus and limewire and still no luck. Turned the firewall back on. I thought maybe BT have blocked all peer2peer activity from my pc but now my internet connection keeps going. One minute im browsing the web and then page cannot be displayed with the following target being displayed in the status box at the bottom of internet explorer "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm". If i restart my pc the connection comes back.

Im gonna re-install windows in the next few days and i hope this will solve the problem. Ive also used a program called Security Task Manager to eliminate processes that might be interferring with my connection but still no luck.

Any ideas? Cheers.

A friendly bump as I have the exact same thing .... started with me at the weekend, my connection to the router will last from 5 - 60min and work flawlessly then just switch off.

Firstly I thought it might be the lan card but tried it through usb also ... exact same result.
Tried 3 routers ... exact same !
Tried wireless ... same !

The router is still connected to the adsl line ok but it's like the pc just doesn't see the router at all ... trying to access control panel with 192.168.1.1 is totally non-responsive until pc is rebooted.

Spyware scan reveal nothing ... obviously a re-install is next on the cards but if anyone has another suggestion I'd greatly appreciate your input.

Cheers

this happend to me for a couple of hours yesterday, it just stopped happening after while. i am on BT i guess there just must have been something wrong there end.

I thought it might be their end but when I couldn't log into the router interface with 192.168.1.1 I figured there must be something else ... surely a BT problem couldn't stop interface log in could it ?

As you see I'm on BT as well .... 8mb and I'm very close to the exchange (200m) so my speeds have always been excellent and still are it's just this strange loss of connection

thanks for your input

I can always connect to the router and BT happily give me an ip address but for some reason internet explorer will not let me through. Everytime i run spyware doctor i get the same infection which is related to internet explorer but spyware doctor cannot get rid of it. I think thats the problem so in a few days im gonna re-install windows xp because it needs it anyway but im still confused why i cant use azureus and limewire when its perfect on my other machine. I think i need to ring BT because i think they have stopped my p2p activities.

Anyone else had the same problem???
