Losing OC when PSU unplugged

Hi guys,

I just rebuilt an old computer for a friend of mine. I managed to get the E2140 up to 2.4GHz (I know it will go higher but I think the 800MHz RAM is limiting it).

The problem is that the OC is lost whenever the machine is unplugged or the PSU is turned off.

The computer turns on (I hear the fans spin up) and then before anything appears on the screen the fans switch off. It is then quiet for a second or so before starting up again (with OC disabled).

If the PSU stays plugged in the whole thing is fine, 100% stable and starts up without a hitch.

I have read that this can be solved by saving the BIOS settings as a profile but that has not helped.

Spec:

CPU: E2140
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L
RAM: 2GB DDR2 800MHz
HDD: 320GB WD Scorpio Blue

Any ideas how to fix this? I guess I could just make sure it is always plugged in but it is far from running 24/7 and is competing for plug space with other stuff.

I believe the battery on the motherboard has failed.
You should replace it and see what happens.

It is a brand new mobo (the only thing I bought for the build). Is that likely?

Should I contact OCUK for a new one?

Make sure you get the same battery as there are I believe 2 types but aslong as you take the battery you took out to a boots or where ever you can get another very cheap.

Don't know if this is a possibilitie in this scenario or not but I know that when their is to much of a high overclock, the motherboard automaitcly resets its self, this happens in every motherboard and its just one of the ways to tell you that it isn't stable. have you tried running prime 95?

Just try taking out the battery and putting it back in, thats all that was wrong with mine :)

I'll give it a go, thanks.

Yes. It is prime stable for 11 hours.
