Hi guys,

i have a slight issue with my old computer well old to me now, but its the main family computer. turned on the computer went to open the internet browser and failed to open the web page up. tried a few other pages no luck either. i also tried another web browser and got the same thing.

i checked the connectivity and it says its connected. as it normally is. checked both ends of the ethernet cable. have tried to restart both the computer and router but nothing has changed. what am i missing? its driving me mad as we havent changed anything on the computer.

the computer is Packard Bell IMEDIA 1618/N
the router is Orange Livebox
Models: Livebox 1.1 and Livebox 1.2
Manufacturer: Inventel
Wireless standard: 802.11b/g
Firmware: v5.10.8
Ethernet ports for connecting PCs
USB ports
Orange Liveprint or USB printer

any help would be great guys as im out of ideas.

thanks rob

tried a virus scan/malware scan? what browser is it, internet explorer can get confused sometimes so the browser settings need to be correct

i tried both internet explorer and mozilla firefox 4. what would be the best software to do a virus/malware scan? i only have avg free on there at the moment?

I use spybot search and destroy....I use the immunize function which blocks some nasty sites automatically. I also use CCleaner to keep the registry clean, just back it up before making changes. The internet could be that some malware or something has changed the proxy server settings.

hi guys, problem solved. i was about to check my sygate firewall but couldnt find it. it hadnt opened up when starting the computer for some reason so i uninstalled it and hey presto the internet connection was back. i have since uninstalled avg anti virus, and now using microsoft essentials, spybot and ccleaner now.

thanks for the advice on the programs they cleared over a 1gb worth of old file paths etc.
