loss of internet connection after sp3

hi all,
im at a friends house and after updating sp3 on her pc she has lost connection, now ive looked in network connections and it says connected, but there is no internet.
she is using wanadoo live box via ethernet cable.

is there anything i can do to solve this?

ok i have booted into safe mode with networking and its all working, but not working on normal.

Is it using a 3rd party firewall ? If so update it to the latest patch/version.
