all settings in my usb power management are unticked so they dont switch off to save power.

What is happening exactly, your PC is rebooting? Or your router? And if you are using a router, how come you are using USB? :)

well my pc is rebooting cos i have to log back in, and wait for things to load up.
sorry, the router isnt usb, i was trying to say ive checked all usb devices and made sure they are not on power save.

i was convinced i just had to update the drivers for the router, but that this time hasnt helped

So if your router is mains powered, how are you losing your internet connection when your PC reboots? I don't understand :) It should be independent of the PC being on, no?

ok, yes my router is still on so i have power to that.......
msn and any other internet related program will only work once my pc has started up again
like ive said i was originally convinced it was router related as i recall i had this issue before. (before i went to a router about 6 months ago, i had usb modem,i never had this issue, within two weeks of router installation i had same probs but got it resolved, i thought by drivers update)
Thats why i was asking in this section

Hmm well it sounds like you are not actually losing your internet connection as such then - your problem is simply with your PC rebooting. I can't see how your router could have any effect on that happening, because your PC doesn't even know you have a router - it just sees the LAN connection. (* I am assuming the router is connected to the PC via ethernet and not USB - even mains powered routers still let you use USB for the data transfer)

So your PC is rebooting in the middle of the night basically? Have you tried leaving it on through the night disconnected from the internet just to rule at potential hacker/security breach etc. If it still does it, then something is happening in the middle of the night. Are you running an Overclock? Do you have something that has scheduled to update each night/morning in the early hours and something is failing and causing reboots?

So this is what's happening right:

  • PC rebooting itself at night
  • Internet occasionaly stopping working until after reboot

Have you looked at the system events log? It could be a reboot after an automatic update or something similar.

As for the internet, your router definitley doesn't require rebooting to get the net backup? I had a similar problem with a netgear bit of kit when I used p2p.

Check your temps as well, They may be getting high, even just sat at idle and your pc may just reboot as a safety issue.

May be worthwhile checking, you may not this of course, but some people miss the obvious.

But I agree with also checking the event viewer / scheduled tasks and see what is going on.

Also do you have any auto software updates that have the "tick" box for reboot after updating enabled ?

How many times a month does it do this? And was the last time on Tuesday/Wednesday morning ?
