loss of oil and bad mpg's linked ?

Hi all,

I have a question in regards to my zafira 1.6 16valve comfort on a W reg plate, only had it 6 months and have noticed I am losing oil, approximately 1 liter a month, no visible leaks and no noticeable blue smoke, assuming stuck piston rings or issue with valve oil seals but I wonder if my awful mpg's is linked get between 27 - 30 mpg's no matter if its all motorway or around town.

Any ideas lads?

Really you should get better mpgz as you're burning the oil off as a diesel substitute

The question is, it if was piston rings or valve seals, would you bother fixing it on a w reg zafira?

The book figures are only mid 30s,just seems like a guzzler

How many miles do you do a month? 1L per 1000 miles is considered 'acceptable' for many cars, especially with age if they've not had regular changes throughout their life

600 miles a month minimum, been fully serviced every year of its life and had new cam belt, I guess just a guzzler as said, I probably wont bother fixing leaking oil not worth the hassle

I only get 30mpg with my 1.8VVT 08 zafira, they are just not economical, they are shaped like a massive brick.

a friend had an old 1.6 zafria. he normally get 25-30mpg.

What grade oil are you using now?

I've seen people advise to use a thicker oil on a old car that is burning it. -Is this good advise as a cheap 'fix' ?
