I'm on ADSL24, used to get 8meg down, 1meg up, however my net kept dropping, so i rang adsl24 and they said i was getting '400 hex errors' and that either my microfilter or router was to blame, so i have just replaced the router, and it's not dropping any more, however i'm getting 1meg down / 1 meg up instead.

Can you post your line stats. It's hard to say what is limiting the speed without knowing what state your line is in.
Are you talking about a sync rate at 1mbps or throughput at 1mbps?

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1152 kbps 1167 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.0 db 13.1 db
Noise Margin 31.1 db 6.5 db

Well 31 db noise margin on downstream is massive. I would say your sync rate is being limited by some sort of profiling as your line can definately take more on the downstream.
Try the speedtester on the BT site. If I recall it will also tell you your Line Profile.
I would still leave it a few days to settle down.
If you see no improvement then contact your ISP/BT
