Hey all

Well, just got in from work, booted up my rig and coretemp was only showing 1 core. Weird i thought, so i got the lastest version of coretemp, no change, still showing 1 core
Had a check of my bios settings, nothing has changed. I havnt made any changes lately apart from overclocking the Q6600 to 3.0GHz a few months ago. Any ideas? Info below

You think the voltage could be the problem?

Also tryed changing bios back to the pre-overclocked settings, no luck there :(

Some BIOS' have an option enable/disable multi CPU.

Double checked the bios settings, all fine and works in XP, just Vista being a pain in the ass it seems. Had a look around the net and found that a reinstall of Vista does solve this prob, but ive ran out of dvds to backup my files. Guess i'll live on 1 core until i get some more, could do with a format anyway. Will post another reply once its done to help people who use a search

could i have a link the background?

heh, Wolrd of Goo, pure genius :) linky

You could try
msconfig --> Boot tab --> Advanced options... --> and then selecting 4 processors

might work :)

Only shows 1 :( other 3 still playing hide and seek

try going to device manager and uninstalling all the CPU drivers?
then rebooting?

Tryed that one. Another option would have been to go back to a restore point, but because im dual booting it seems its disabled, ah well. Thanks for the help though

4 cores in Vista and no format needed, yey :)

Heres where i went wrong.
I remember reading CustomPC mag about a week ago and there was an article about using all 4 cores on Vista boot up. By default, Vista only uses one. So i though "oh, i'll give that a go".
msconfig > boot > advanced options > number of processors. By default its unchecked, what i think id done was check it and select '4'. For some reason that messed everything up and Vista only detected 1 core.

So today i just remembered the above, unchecked 'number of processors', rebooted and all 4 cores now running in Vista

So, in summary, don't prat about with msconfig :D or if you do, remember that you did
