i lost my phone back in June so i claimed on the insurance but now i found it so can i get it unbanned or do i just bin it n97 mini

Give it to your insurance company. Otherwise bin it.

It will still work in countries which don't use IMEI blocking. So I suppose you could donate it to someone poor or a charity (abroad) in your next holiday.

This is a good suggestion else you have to go through the fuss of returning the new phone etc.
