Yes.
Spending money is indeed very costly ;)

Back to HL2 stuff...
Tested HL2 now I am home and did indeed notice that it is now running in 64bit mode :) just not in CS:S only in HL2 and Lost Coast.
For a giggle I did some video tests with my trusty (and only) 9800pro MAX settings... my oh my ..
Firstly 2x/4x/8x AF just knocks off way too many FPS, so back to Bilinear for me. sitting at 60fps
Then lets test AA - oooo - 2xAA and no FPS hit @1152 ... very strange. Lets try 4xAA - still no performance hit !.... hmmm - lets up the resolution: 1280 only loosing 5 fps....
Lets try 1600x1200 - lose 4 more FPS - still with 4xAA on.
Ok something has to be wrong - going to test with CS:S.
Same results !
I dont belive it so start a online game - now i see whats happening - Max FPS around 80-90, average FPS around 50, min FPS now dropping to 30 FPS (it never used to drop below 50 FPS).
SO now I quite happily playing CS:S at 1600x1200 4xAA where before I was on 1152 - no AA but with 8xAF!
And to think I was tempted to buy a new graphics card !!!

just did the lost coast bench on mine and only got 92fps with those settings guys. Default clocks on the 1900, but still... :(

would a defrag help? The windows install is only a couple of months old i think.

I run a 7900GT overclocked and i get 136 fps , same settings on a 1280x1024 display. I would assume you`d get more than 122. At 1680x1050 widescreen i get 115 fps.

I've realised why this is now. Nvidia cards don't support HDR and AA enabled together if I remember rightly (someone correct me if I'm wrong). With no AA I get 135.50 at stock. :)

Ah yes you're right, my mistake. :)

A quick Google would seem to suggest that the Nvidia cards handle Lost Coast better than the ATI ones with HDR enabled.

It's because the Source engine HDR is a shader model 2.0 based HDR, bloom in effect i guess, not true HDR which uses FP blending such as Far Cry and Oblivion. Quote taken from another forum

Thats how it works with HDR & AA on Nvidia on HL2

Rob

I've got everything at stock at the moment and I'm getting 84.57fps with 6xAA, 16xAS, HDR and full details, textures etc at 1440x900... just something to compare with, I don't know how good that is

afaik SM3.0 is used in the lost coast (but uses 2.0 for cards which don't support it), but its the way that valve have implemented HDR into the source engine that allows it to be used with AA

Bumpage,

Put together my system along with the dfi board a couple of days ago, re-rean the tests, now getting only 93fps at 1280x1024 8xaf 4xfsaa, actually decreased from the asrock mobo by about 20fps, even though the cpu;s running at 2774mhz.

Using cat 6.3 since they dont have the weird boot screen bug.

Completly new install the other day due to a new sata hard drive as well.

dfi cfx 3200
2 gig gskill pc 4000hz
western digital sata 16mb cache 400gig
opteron 144 @ 2774 mhz
x1900xtx @ stock

I woulda assumed the dfi board would have given me a slightly better result in this benchmark but nope.

Is it the same with any drivers?
Have you updated the mobo's BIOS?

Bios has been updated, gonna try some different drivers tomorrow, though i dont see any giving me a 20fps bump :(

Well would you believe that over a month after i posted this even with crossfire im unable to replicate the benchmark results in that article.
