Hi all,
In a nut shell - there were two versions of XP on separate drives (one SSD, one Disk Drive). The registry for the SSD installation was changed so the desktop pointed to a folder on the Disk Drive.
It was decided to install Win7 onto the disk drive. This changed everything and moved lots of files around. I followed the Microsoft procedure to roll back win7. Upon loading Win XP it rebuilt itself, and in the process deleted my backup files that were in a folder I named specially so windows would not think it was relevant.
So now I cannot find the files. I can find the partial remains of the desktop folder I need, but there are files missing. This is strange as why would there be folders missing!!!??? I can find links to old files at the original location (in recently used) but not the files themselves.
I have run some data recovery software but cannot find anything. Can anyone offer any help? Would they expect this kind of reaction by windows?
