Ok, im a happy owner of a 24" monitor (1920x1200) 16-10 aspect. Are these being phased out due to 16-9 (1920x1080) monitors ? If so why ?

Perhaps not phased out but certainly less.

With the TV giving names like "FULL-HD" and 1080p...it seems that manufacturers can imitate these marketing and people will buy and they can make it for less (less space on panel etc.).

It's about standardisation - the "full HD" format is 16:9 and is the preferred format for 'high definition' movies nowadays. Many manufacturers (and consumers) believe that 16:10 offers them a better gaming experience (more vertical pixels) and I don't think they will be phased out. 1680x1050 remains a popular resolution for 20-22 inch monitors, and this is currently one of the most popular display resolutions of Steam users (WSXGA+).
