Lost Internet connection, ethernet "unidentified network"

Edit.... It's working!

I thought I'd take off the switch, wire directly into the hub one last time before trying new ssd / Ubuntu and it works, full 120mbps. Flight mode is still there. Might just ignore that.

Hopefully it stays this way!

Perhaps this from mcnumpty did actually work just took a couple of restarts?
"If that doesn't work from elevated command prompt enter
Netsh winsock reset
Netsh int IP reset
Then restart pc"

Thanks guys, fingers crossed its done...

@slim01 Is that the Ethernet connection you got working or Wi-Fi ?

Having the same problem with my Ethernet but works fine with Wi-Fi.
Ahhhhhh man I feel for you. Try doing the above cmd thing as administrator. Unless it fixed itself then it was that.

Working with ethernet. I haven't even tried the WiFi dongle yet but will probs keep around, and the spare virgin hub, just to try if it fails again.

Do you get a speed limited to 10Mbps or nothing at all? You got the airplane mode too?

Nothing on the Ethernet but usb wifi dongle works fine though I havnt run any speed tests so will check.

Well if it's not connected at all you won't be able to run a speed test at all... What does connection say, "unidentified network"? And diagnosis tool states no valid ip configured?

I'm ment speed testing the Wi-Fi connection to check getting full speeds.

Ethernet is exactly that unidentified network and no valid ip.

Only started when we switch providers went from virgin to sky.

Ok so I almost, VERY almost threw my xbox controller at my brand new £1000 oled (which is also being a pain in the backside) after I finally got everything set up to game last night...

Snacks ready, Mrs in bed, the riftbreaker all loaded up (game I've waited for for ages) aaaaaaaand can't connect xbox controller to pc (using the wireless official xbox adapter).

Plugged it in the laptop... Works first time. W... T... F....

I'm wondering if some settings I've changed.

Also... Flight mode has come back. Could be the issue but can't for the life of me turn it off. I even got a WiFi adapter, so got WiFi on pc, finally had the actual option to turn it off, but when I unplug the wireless receiver, so ethernet only, flight mode bug is back, its always on (but Internet works).

I'm thinking I need to do a windows reinstall after the settings I've changed :(

Issue is I'm not even sure what fixed my issue, I'm not even convinced it's something I did so maybe issue with router or windows bug.

Couple of work arounds though...
1) get a USB ethernet adapter
2) get a decent WiFi adapter
3) get a new router and set virgin/sky router to modem only mode, at least then you know you have a decent router. Tp vision ones on amazon are on offer for 40 quid or 45 quid for like +500Mbps WiFi and giga ethernet. They also seem to go on auction used for around £10 - £20

I might buy one anyway now in case it happens again
