Came home today to find my PC going round in circles with a BSOD. My SSD had somehow corrupted. Anyway, 7hrs later Ive got most things back on the PC (Though also lost a ton of stuff like you would not believe) though the worst... Is that I have lost my windows 7 key as I changed cases a year ago.. so dont have the sticker anymore :(

Is there anything I can do? I feel cheated having to pay twice. I have the box.. But no code :(

I tried for about 3hrs, but the C300 drive was just going in an endless BSOD. Im good with computers.. It was not recoverable sadly. Not even as a secondary drive :(

I did have very old firmware on it though.

So now Im back in Windows (fresh install) though have no key... :/

I cant use any tool now as I had to do a reformat of the drive. I didnt realise I had lost the key until this point :(

Haha. This does though.. I've lost enough work stuff as it is. I def wont have the sticker anymore as I changed cases a year ago.. When you buy new is the key on anything else? Ive seen its not in the manual or box.. Which would have been helpful! Cheers Microsoft.

So just that little sticker then? :(

And it is their fault... Why cant they stick it in the box? Other means = non working PC. Though I still think its unfair I have to buy it... again!

its worse than that he THREW the serial number away.... he does not even have the excuse that he lost it...

WTF? How did I throw it away? Learn to read or get off the boards, in particular my thread asking for help.

I lost the key as when I sold my old case.. I ripped the sticker of the back! Thanks for being helpful though ;)

SB420, send me an email (see my sig).

also in future don't reinstall anything onto a disk that's crashed, chances are you could have recovered most things.

I tried using it as a 2nd hard drive in my flatmates computer but nothing.. Kept getting "Page fault in nonpaged area" and instant BSODs so didnt know what to do :(

Have emailed you...

lol I wasnt blaming Mircrosoft. I was just saying it would be useful if they stuck it on the back of the book. Just like every damn game I buy or any other software ;)

A sticker on its own is pointless if you ever change your case dont you think?

You should have put it in your mates pc as a secondary drive, then loaded up magic jelly bean key finder and pointed it at your hard drive.

Tried that. Though randomly made his PC BSOD in a constant loop. Im not 100% sure though I think it may have been to do with the x amount of hours bug that the C300 drives had on old firmware.

Or should have asked here before formatting it..

This bit is true. I should off though it wasnt till I went and got the windows box.. that I realised I didnt have the code anymore :(

Annoyingly I was about to get a new SSD (M4) so is a bit annoying that it couldnt have waited another week.. Live and learn :)

Yes but it is also pointless throwing out a case with said sticker on before taking a 20p biro and noting down the product key :)

I probably did... Thing is, I dont know where it is. I would have wrote it somewhere.. God knows where. I assumed I would have put it in the CD case... but.... :D

and your quibbling over the cost of an OS License? :P

Actually I have 2 x 7970's now :p though still feel cheated having to pay for the same thing twice ;)
