Lost my Windows XP serial

I don't think so, i think theres some software that can identify your code when you run it.

Not sure but I think rockxp was mentioned a while back (don't hold me to that)

Yup, RockXP does the job. Thats assuming he still has the OS installed. :)

Surely if the OS was registered with Windows, if you rang them they could supply you with it?

You're sentence makes no sense whatso ever.

My advice is to look and use the programs to get the product key back from your current installation.

If you say so :S

What I was trying to say is when you activate Windows, surely they store your details including your serial number. So if you rang them and gave your details, would they be able to give you your serial number?

All they get sent is the product key and hardware hash. Not really enough for them to be able to give you the serial for.

Its installed but it wont load and my wife thought she would fix it with a new install which then gets stuck due to me not knowing the serial.

Sounds like there's nothing you can do. I hope you don't download a crack and some fake serials on torrent or emule, that's naughty. You'll have to buy another I guess.

Its not like I am going to d/l anything as its not working, I do not think my work would appreciate torrents. Looks like Vista for me then.

Yep, one of the fairly crucial things about activation is that it's completely anonymous. They don't keep (or in fact collect at all) your details and they certainly don't offer a "get your key back" service.

What I did was even more stupid. I broke the XP install disc!

I bought the student upgrade (from Windows 98) version with XP SP1, and broke the disc, and after downloading a few .iso's of the net to attempt my serial in these discs, none of them worked! All had SP2, and could never find a SP1 upgrade edition.

Sadly I bought another XP Student edition of ebay for a good £65. Oh well, life goes on...
