Lost Network Access - Faulty Motherboard ?

I built a PC a few months ago which has worked fine until I powered up this evening and there was no Internet access.

The MB is a Gigabyte P35 DS3R R1.

I swapped the lead from the Router to a Laptop and then to my old PC [this one] and the Internet Connection is fine on both.

I use Acronis TrueImage and restored an Image from a month or so ago and the problem persists on the new PC.

Is there anything worth checking or that I can do other than replace the MB.

The title should have said Internet Access - I do not have a Home Network set up.

run ipconfig /all & post the results. Even if by change the mobo had developed a fault then you can drop a 10/100 nic in there for £5 or so :)

Ran on the new PC with the problem and the 'DOS' window opens and closes without appearing to write anything - no connection to the Router.

Did the same on this PC, connected to Router and Internet, and something is written but the window closes and I'm not sure if it writes to a file or where that file is.

Thanks m_cozzy.

It sounds like you typed it straight into the 'run' box. If you type in 'cmd' into the run box, then type 'ipconfig /all' into the DOS window you'll get the results on screen for as long as you want.

Thanks guys - the following is the full entry following your instructions.

As stated above the PC is not connected to the Router when this was run.

I did check when the new PC was connected to the Router and the PC cannot access the Router at all ie using ADSL Monitor etc.

Just to confirm, you ran ipconfig when the pc was disconnected from the router? If so run it again when it is plugged in. Also are there any lights on the nic, usaully an orange & green light to show speed & activity will come on & blink.

I thought you might say that :)

The old and new PC's are in different rooms which means swapping things around to get the new/suspect PC close to the Router.

I'll give it a go in the morning.

With the new PC connected to the Router there are no lights flashing as you would normally expect and I cannot bring up any 'pages' on the Router which I often do along with other ways of accessing the Router ie ADSL Monitor, DMT etc.

Whatever is happening the PC does not seem to access the Router at all.

I'll report back - thank you.

well no, checking the pc has leased an ip address from the router is the 1st thing to do, if it hasnt done that then nothing else is going to work.
Also check in device manager that the nic is seen under network adaptors.

Decided to try and at least determine where I stand tonight so swapped everything around again.

It's now decided to work.

When I first powered up early this evening and there was obviously a problem I removed and reconnected the plug at the back of the PC several times to ensure as best I could that I was getting a good connection and powered up and down a few times without any success.

I can only assume either the connection is suspect, although it does latch into place, or there's an intermittent fault brewing on the MB.

Thanks for the help - hopefully I won't need to resurrect this thread in the near future.
