Lost Network Connection after bios update

Hi there,
I have just updated the bios of my GA-K8NF-9 motherboard to F10 using the @BIOS utility (From F1, I think!)
Everything seemed to go fine but I have lost my Network/Internet (wired) connection
Not sure what to check The rest of the network and internet connection is ok. I have tried turning off the firewall (Zone-Alarm) and Device Manager says that the NVIDIA nForce networking controller is working ok. The "Local Area Connection Status" is showing packets being sent but not received

All help appreciated!
Simon.

Have now connected up to the network using a PCI card, everything working fine :)
Still can't figure out what's wrong with the motherboard LAN port though. Have tried re-installing drivers several times, now showing as 4.8.2.0. Does anyone know if this is in fact the latest version?
Thanks, Simon.

output from ipconfig /all?
Can you ping any IP on the network, is the machine assigned an IP?

Gonna have to give a hell of a lot more detail...

Does the motherboard come with the Nvidia firewall built into the board because i had to disable mine to get any sort of net connection with my Epox board that had it.

Hi, I don't think this motherboard has the firewall built in, never been aware of it anyway!!

Tolien, I will try to provide the info that you requested, but I'm new to all this so it might take a couple of days!

sounds like your right to me.
i believe its either in the bios or when you install the nvidia drivers for the motherboard that it comes up about nvidia firewall manager or something similar and you should say no. if you said yes i believe it sets it up for default settings.

Hi,
I did select 'No' when the option to install the firewall came up, so I don't think it's that. I have just upgraded the bios again, to F11, at the suggestion of Gigabyte, but still got the same problem!

When connected via the motherboard I get the following details:
Physical Address: 1B-D7-71-EA-0F-00
IP Address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.1.1
Lease Obtained: 14/02/2006 19:27:09
Lease Expires: 15/02/2006 19:27:09
DNS Servers: 194.168.4.100, 194.168.8.100
WINS Server:

The 'Activity' window is still showing packets being sent but none received. Does this suggest a firewall issue?

When connected using the PCI card I get this:
Physical Address: 00-06-4F-01-8E-DB
IP Address: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.1.1
Lease Obtained: 14/02/2006 19:46:06
Lease Expires: 15/02/2006 19:46:06
DNS Servers: 194.168.4.100, 194.168.8.100
WINS Server:

Anyway, as I said earlier, the connection works fine using a PCI card, so I might just buy another of those. Swapping one between two computers at the moment!

Thanks for all your help so far :)

The results are identical from both. Can you ping another device on the network using the onboard?

Just tried to ping another computer on the network using the onboard. Request timed out with a 100% loss, sent 4, received 0. Pinging the router gets the same result. The other computer pings the router sucessfully but cannot ping the main computer, 100% loss again.

sounds to me like a duff network cable or something then rather than the firewall setup on the pc? as you've tried a pci one as well.

check when you flash the new bios on that the onboard lan is not disabled by default in the new bios, as this will cause the problem you have

some of the ocwb beta bioses i have used on my asrock mobo have this prob - just reboot into bios, enable the onboard lan and reboot - everything sorted

Thanks . . . going to try F7 this weekend to get dual core support. I think that the only relevant setting in the bios is 'On Chip MAC LAN' auto or disabled. I think this was set to auto when I tried F10 and F11, but I will double check :)
