Well this game is coming tomorrow, any opinions on it?

Any tips as well?

Fingers crossed this wont be a stinker like Infinite Undiscovery.

Thanks

The game is a lot more strategic than other JRPGs, So watch yourself. Bosses arent just a case of hacking and slashing, you'll die. You need to analyze elemental defense and try and use status weaknesses too, you have to be strategic about what you wear to counter certain attacks, You have to be wary of your Guard Counter as Your humans who are generally back row combatants don't fair well often in battle, And its usually down to your Immortals to protect them. Also, When you get them, Magic Shield and Physical Shield magics are a god send. I forget the actual name of the magics. Also, Lost Odyssey is the first game that i've used Defend often

Started playing this today, so far very good. Nice traditional JRPG, i'm very pleased that they also allowed you to select the original Japanese voice overs, i'm hoping this will become the norm as Valkyria Chronicles did it too. The graphics are sublime, especially when the game seamlessly transitions from high quality CG to the in game engine, the animations are a bit rough when not in combat but that's about my only complaint on first impressions.

The dream sequences are long but well written. They are completely optional but after reading through two of them i'd recommend you at least try to read them; they do add a bit to the story.

It's a good game, my gripe with it is that levelling up is strictly controlled. You go to a new area, kill some standard enemies then head on to the boss fight. You can't increase your level that much before the boss fight by hanging around beating more enemies.
I suppose that's the way with most JRPGs but in this one it's really obvious that your level jumps from area to area. Having said that, that's the only problem with it. It's a beautiful game much in the mould of Final fantasy - always a bonus.

Lost Odyssey has old-school Japanese turn-based gameplay so it might put you off if you have been fed up with that mechanic, but with this game, I find it doesn't really matter. Afterall, it is by the very man who created the first Final Fantasy anyways and Nobuo Uematsu also does the soundtrack.

The game is also very text heavy as well, especially with the "Thousand Years of Dreams" sequences, but definately worth the read to really dive into the story about Kaim. Not surprising as this part is written by a Japanese novelist anyways.

Brilliant game, every now and then do grind a little bit if you can, because later on in the game (disc 3 for me) I got to a point where I wasnt strong enough to take this monster's hits, and also didnt save effectively, so cant grind!

I was really enjoying this game but never finished it, I really should go back to it at some point!

you're right but one main problem with this. You end up using the exact same spells and attacks every single time vs particular enemies. Not enough variety imo. Got very repetitive and bland tbh (which is a shame because i initially liked the combat and music a lot)

Although i'm still on disc 2 when i stopped (got sick of constant random battles) Doesnt have the same freedom and variety that something like FF 7 has in its summon spells and the like. In FF7 i would cast different summons because i liked the look of it and how that summons *attacked* the enemy e.g. Odin :D :D

In LO - its too functional - i'm not dazzled by it unfortunately. Shame as the rest of it is pretty good.

Yeah I agree about the dream sequences. They are mostly quite long, but well worth reading if you can be bothered as they are written well. I found myself a lot of the time getting fed up when they would appear though as I just wanted to carry on with the rest of the game. You should be able to view them later in the main menu if you so wish though if you can't be bothered to read it there and then.

As for the rest of the game, it is very good but far from a masterpiece. The main story isn't that great but it does help the game along. The best bit for me was probably the combat and the some of the boss fights being challenging. As said already, strategy is key for some of the fights otherwise you will fail miserably. I can't help but feel that in some of the boss fights quite a bit of luck is involved. Sometimes a boss would use loads of strong attacks and sometimes hardly ever at all despite me not really doing much different.

All said I've played and completed the whole game and I think I spent something like 60 hours with the game, so there is plenty there to keep you going for a while.

Well I've been playing it like mad for the past week and i have to say its a very very good game, i WAS really enjoying it, but i've started to get really bored of it and have stopped playing (disc 4).

A few things that annoy me, the constant probing of pots, kicking trash bins and so on, sometimes i walk into peoples houses with no need to speak to them, but just to rob them of there goods. Felt kinda wrong considering i was trying to save the world.

Then there is every single time i win or start a battle you have that stupid 5-10 sec sequence of them spinning swords around and making 1 line quotes (without any animation of there mouths mind you), after 10 battles it got really really quite annoying.

The constant loading screens started to get annoying as well, it felt like they were not really needed but they added them for some reason. If fable 2 can have graphics on the same level with half the loading screens, why cant this game?

The constant reusing of the same mobs but with different colours and names was quite annoying, didn't really feel like i was progressing through the zones when you saw the same mob you killed at level 15 at level 40 but with a pink hat on.

Not just specific to this game, but WHAT IS THE POINT OF HAVING SWORDS WHEN YOU HAVE TANKS AND GUNS!!!!??? I really don't understand it. Either have swords or guns, not both, it just screws up the immersion.

Also, i agree with previous comments, the dream sequences should have been cut scenes / animated, no offence, but i really cant be arsed to read all that!

A lot of things in the game were very well done, the animations on some of the cut scenes were great, i loved the way Cooke was portrayed, voice and acting wise, was very realistic sometimes and great to watch.

The music was acceptable as well, but nothing on the standard as Oblivion.

The boss fights and general trash mob fights were good fun, some boss fights were challenging but not overly as to get annoying.

The story was a very interesting one, i enjoyed the transisitions from disc to disc and i felt the story was really interesting.

Overall i really enjoyed playing the game, but the constant nagging of the little things in the back of my head really stopped the fun in the end and i feel disappointed in that respect. I went in really wanting to enjoy it and i came out of it enjoying it.

I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Most people will probably sum the game up as you did. It had its weakness' like many games, but overall it was a good game and worth experiencing.

I did enjoy the dream sequences, but I agree they could have been better. Even animations would have been better, however it was still interesting and added depth to the story and character.
