Lost pictures on Win 8

A friend of my wife is having problems having lost pictures with Windows 8, so I thought maybe somebody here might be able to help?

In her email, she has stated that "I uploaded from my mobile phone and they all went into a Bluetooth folder and they were there until windows updated then everything was moved, I can see where they are but cant open them, when I try it says folder is empty".


Suggestions?

When she says "until windows updated" does she mean from an older version to 8? Or just a security update etc?

I finally had a reply back from her (I also asked her to run a search for the files); her reply was "Thank you, I meant a security update, I have disabled automatic updates for now,as it seems to be every few days,but still cant find them without windows updating, unless I have just put them ,then can find them straightaway,i will do the search"...
