Exactly 4 years ago my parents bought a computer from the now deceased Evesham Technology. I'd now like to reformat it, but they've helpfully lost the recovery disc that came with it.

It's still got the Evesham branded OEM COA stuck on the case, so will that license key work with a different OEM xp pro install disc or does it have to be an Evesham recovery disc as it's a branded OEM COA?

Correct, I have a set of install disks I use for all client windows installations so they don't need to produce the disks. Providing there is a valid license code on the case, it will work.

In some cases, the activation fails because some build disks maybe different to the standard disks. However, the automated phone call will activate this no problem. Allow 10 minutes or so for that.
 
Will different service pack releases make a difference? ie can I use a SP3 install disc with this old key? (circa April 05)

Of course :) I have upto to date disks for XP, Vista so when people drop off old PCs to have windows reinstalled, this isn't a problem. Providing they have the key. In fact, it's esier because I don't have to go throught the trouble of loading the SPs afterwards.. Saves time. But as i said, avtivation sometimes works or it doesn't but the phone call sorts this out.

Sorry to ask in your thread, but same subject so thought I'd ask. :rolleyes:

A friend is trying to reformat his old laptop but has lost the cd, so is using another oem cd, but the key is being refused. Its a really old fujitsu siemens, will he have to use a fujitsu siemens cd to get it working?

Is he using the correct version - Home or Pro?
