LostWinds - WiiWare

Heh, wow I'd be wondering if any Frontier employees frequented this board! I'm hoping to come work for you guys soon(ish), I attended the open day you had earlier in the year. Was very surprised I actually got to have a chat with David Braben!

Anyway, when I was at this open day I did briefly see this title, and it looked like a really polished wii ware title, I'm glad the reviewers seem to agree!

Nifty, what were you at the open day for? Artist, Programming or Design? :)

I was following the Design track that day. I have another friend who works there, who I think is also working on the Outsider in a design occupation. Obviously he's not said anything more ;)

I sent off my application last week after I was informed they were accepting graduate applications, I've not heard anything yet! haha. Fingers crossed anyway :)

Oh, you must be Ian's friend - he sits just behind me :P. Well, good luck with your application! :D

Power Paint Brush. ;)

The US title is much better. :(

Pah, it's all about the Japanese Kirby's Magic Paintbrush. Worth it for the pink stylus alone :)

As soon as I finish my exam on friday I shall be all over Lost Winds! I adore Yoshi's Touch and Go (still the best use of the DS imo) and Kirby's Magic Paintbrush, and this looks like an excellent addition to the 'draw stuff on the screen and make things happen' genre.

My Wii is... somewhere. I might have to unpack it for this, how much does it cost?

1000 points, so about £8? So 3 hours for £8 which isn't bad considering most games seem to be around 8 hours long nowadays and £40.

It's £7 for 1000 points. I've found it to be fairly entertaining so far. Decent graphics, a lovely soundtrack, fluid controls.

I'm only an hour in but already think this is a great little game. It reminds me of Abe's oddysee, Treasure Island Dizzy and Kirby's Magic Paintbrush all rolled into one.

//edit

I am so impressed with Lost Winds - it's certainly been a highlight of this generation. For 7 quid you'd have to be insane not to give this a go. Bring on part 2!

Appologies for the double post, but why aren't more people playing this?!

To quote eurogamer:

"One of the most brilliantly realised control systems ever seen in a 2D platform game" "encompasses platforming, combat and puzzling without ever feeling cumbersome or confusing" "superbly logical puzzles" "all of it feels instantly intuitive" "one of the most delightful-looking games around - not just in terms of the Wii, but full stop." "Frontier has created a mini-masterpiece at first attempt" "..absolutely shames most full-price releases.."

9/10

It really is the ******, and one of the freshest and most downright enjoyable games i've played in a long time (GTA4 isn't getting a look in). When the controls click, everything suddenly makes perfect sense and the thought of using a button to jump seems so archaic. Up there with Ico in terms of magic gaming discoveries.

gamespot have officially lost the plot giving it a bad review score. On metacritic there score is the lowest by a mile too.

Aye, they're so far away from every other review that I suspect the writer was either having a bad day, or hasn't a clue. Baring in mind this is a 3 hour game - the first part of hopefully many installments - those scores are superb. As the 1-up guy said - 'it's more satisfying on a minute-by-minute basis than many of the years-in-the-making, supposedly "triple-A" games released so far ...'. Personally, I haven't played a game on the Wii, 360 or PS3 that has enthralled me as much as Lost Winds.
